  • Bolivar 2008 RE Simones.

Never been mad on Bolivars TBH. They make some good strong full on smokes for sure, but their taste profile could sometimes be too full on for me personally, and in particular I found the younger Bolivars harsh at times.

I had read good reports relating to the 2008 Simones (RG48 x 5") and decided to try a box out for myself.

Initially I found the first half inch of the cigar milder, woodier and slightly creamy, which I had never experienced with any previous Bolivar Vitola.

Once I had gotten into the bones of it, it turned out to be an exceptionally smooth refined smoke, and far better than i had anticipated. The taste profile is certainly not your typical Bolivar tastes at all, and reminded me of perhaps a good aged Upmann. I smoked a box of Bolivar RC last year, and the RC and the Simones are like chalk and cheese IMO.

Excellent smoke all round, and I would say give them a try if you get the chance.

Yum seems to be the verdict there by the sound of it Mr Whisk.

Interesting to hear that the usual profile has been somewhat worked away from, as even the wee PCs pack a Boli punch.

Right, who's off to Canada soon?

I try to make the trip once or twice every year (at least once for skiing, and hopefully a further trip in the summer - with family in North Vancouver it's usually the BC end of the country). Unfortunately, this year might be a no-tripper. (Having said that, I should be in Boston for work in the summer, so might pop over the border one weekend, just to keep the ten year record alive).

I might have to break into the bank, however, and get some cash for a trip afterall, those sound like great smokes whisky - and for such relatively young sticks (given that they're Bolivars).

Picked up a couple of boxes for the long term cooler. Looking forward to these. Heard similar great reviews elsewhere.

I think you will like them Yoruba. They are first class IMO.

I would pick up what you need sooner then later - rumour is the 50 cabs are all gone and 25 are getting rarer as the word is out on how good these are.

Apparently the 50 cabs are now difficult to source, but form what I have been told the 2008 cigar is just as good a smoke.
