  • RASS - how long to rest

Had a RASS today, was a bit harsh, from an 09 box. How long do these need to age/rest??

Always let CCs rest in your humi for at least 6 months before sparking up. A year is better. But that is only if the box date is at least one year old. 09s are too soon to be smoking right now IMO.

I try to smoke nothing under 2 years old. Unfortunately when one starts smoking/collecting it is inevitable that you will smoke some young sticks. Those RASS's clearly need more time.

          6-12

As Larry pointed out, at least another 6-12 months and they should be good to go.

Exactly, I love the des Dieux but when they're new, they're awful!

Most of us try one then close the lid for 6-12 months.

I think the RASS is one of those that really improves with age & although is acceptable at a yr or two, it does get better. The trick to aging, just like with wines, is to buy two boxes; whilst smoking the first box the second is aging nicely. I have a box of 10/05 RASS started & a cab of 09/06, which will hopefully have another couple of yrs in the Humi before I get through my box. RASS's are stretched a little further than other vitolas for me, coz I the RASCC too & not only do they fill the shorter smoking periods, they stretch the time between my need for RASS. Talley Ho

It always depends on the cigar and personal preference. I prefer Partagas under a year. However, for Bolivar, I feel they need 3+ years on them.
