Some light for the RE. And likewise the LE.
Let me start from the second ones. Limited Editions are produced only in favour of the six, so called, Global Brands. Namely H. Upmann, Cohiba, Hoyo de Monterrey, Montecristo, Partagas, Romeo y Julieta and Jose La Piedra. They come in -never produced before- vitolas. An example for 2009 would be RyJ Dukes. The Duke vitola is not in the standard production of RyJ. If a given LE vitola was successful and reproduced in the future, it is launched as a regular cigar. Example H. Upmann LE Magnum 50. It was only once produced in 2005. It is in regular production since 2008. Tobacco used for the LE's is premium aged one.
With regards to Regional Editions. They are only produced for brands other than the Global Brands. Again they are unique vitolas, not in the standard production of a brand and are available/distributed in the market for which they were produced. There is nothing special about the tobacco used. The RE's may be anything from good to lousy smokes. The concept behind the RE production is to promote to a certain market the less known and consumed brands. It is a marketing tool for Habanos and RE's are produced in co-operation and feedback from the regional distributor.
RE's and LE's are produced in limited quantities. So Habanos says. It's up to us to believe them.
