If it will be Cohiba Coronas I would be on cloud 9. My opinion is that ER will not be any of the national brands (H Upmann, Cohiba, Montecristo, Hoyo, Partagas...) But the secondary. I would not mind seeing some more lanceros, but that wont happen.
Wonderful post Nic. Thank you for taking the time to transcribe all of that information and then add some interesting remarks on the end.
Allowing ourselves to be sidetracked towards LE (and away from RE) cigars, I do like the sound of your recommendations. I'd dread to think what the Cohiba Gran Corona would cost. I love both of the HdM suggestions; there should be LE options for people that prefer a smoke in the 30-45 minute category, alongside the many 1hr+ sticks.
I trust that Jimmy will check this thread out when he gets back from Cuba next week and add our suggestions to the pot before H&F kick off their LE discussions.
Let me start my first post by thanking you all for your input on the 2011 UK REs. We have to submit our bids by early to mid April so your suggestions are timely.
There seems to be a wee bit of confusion between REs and LEs , and some of the rules that exist for each category. Nic has covered the LEs, so let me confirm the RE rules, which are laid down by Habanos, not H&F. REs can only be made in lesser known brands i.e. not the Global Brands like Cohiba, Mc, Romeo, Hoyo, Partagas, H. Upmann or Niche Brands like Trinidad, San Cristobal and Cuaba. This leaves plenty: Bolivar, Punch, Fonseca, Diplomaticos, ERDM, Juan Lopez, Quintero, Por Larranaga, Rafael Gonzales, Sancho Panza, Vegas Robaina, LGC, Vegueros, Ramon Allones - I think that's it, but I may have missed something.
There are also some limitations on sizes. Obviously the sizes should not be the same as any currently appear in the chosen brand, but they do have to be sizes from the standard portfolio for which the industry has moulds. Some of the newer sizes like Canonazos, Geniales and Magicos remain reserved for Cohiba as is Edmundo for Montecristo. Consequently they are not allowed for REs, although after a period they may become available.
On this basis I am afraid quite a few of your suggestions become non-runners. It is interesting that quite a few of you are going for slenderer vitolas with 38 gauge or less. Your may be interested to know that the last year's German 7 1/2 inch x 38 gauge Bolivar was chosen by one of their forums. We would be happy to do the same here. A Punch Ninfas is under consideration, although some people think it should be a bit shorter.
Anyway, please keep the ideas flowing. I promise that every one will be considered.
Thank you Simon, that should put us in good stead. I wonder how much influence we could have in the decision? A UKCF designed cigar. Now that would be some honour! I'd certainly be up for a box pr two of whatever we come up with!
Simon, I know this format isn't for everyone but I am a great fan of the the long slim panatelas. The Boli Especiales No2 are great smokes, sure they will improve with a few yrs on them. Posting a pic of mine in Members album.

Simon,
Thanks for the great information. I personally would love to see a cigar that originally existed being remade similar to what H&F did with the Magnificos. Like the Quintero Churchill, PL Coronas, RG Vitola C...
Has there been a regional RG? If as I think not, perhaps it deserves one (especially as it seems to have lost most of it's vitolas over recent years). I bet the brand would smoke really well as a perfecto so how about a Generoso, Exclsivo or Celestiales-sized Rafeal?
No one else seems to share my keeness for small figurados - but a final shout in the wilderness for a revival of the Gloria Flechas. Perhaps next year?
Diplomaticos is another brand that doesn't appear often (at all?) as a regional release and Laguito1-2 seem to be the choice for smaller sizes on here - so how about a Diplomaticos Especiales, No 7 as was (or leave that for France where the brand is supposedly popular)? Actually I'd rather have a Ramon Especiales.
The Dalias doesn't to my knowledge come up ever as an RE - that might work as a Punch 898: one of my favourite brands in one of my favourite sizes.
