  • Check out this burn

Went out to smoke one of my Cohiba Magicos and what a weird $%# burn
It is the 3 one I smoked from the box. The other 2 burned okay not perfect though. This one felt a little soft in spots and burned fast as well. Flavor seemed on par though. It has been in the humidorfor about a week at 70-72%. not what I expect for a pricey stick.

A week is not a long time to let a cigar settle. I prefer 3 months.

Did you snip off the end and start again or get through it in stages?

I let it do it's thing and it got better towards the end. The end felt like it had a tighterroll and stiffer. Ithink you guys are right about not letting my sticks rest in the humi longer. I've just got no patience
Lesson learned. Also thinking about lowering the humidity level down a little 70% might be too much
Sorry the dog picture snuck in there!

Was it windy at all outside - that can affect the burn in my experience?

If a cigar does start burning unevenly try evening things out a bit by a dab of a) lighter to the slower burning section or b) of licked finger to the faster burning area c) turning the the slower burning section to face the wind/breeze (or is it the other way round - can never remember?)

                Nice site you have here
I notice a couple of familiar members.

I find letting the cigar settlle for a longer period of time has more effect on the flavor and taste than how it burns.
Unless it was overly dry or over humidified from the shipping experience or vendor storage.
Might be more of a construction thing which is normally less of an issue with Cohibas.
Did you notice if it might have been underfilled or loosely rolled?

Yes, it felt spongy where it burned fast and uneven. Like it was loosely filled. Even compared to the others I smoked out of the same box. That's why I thought it was weird.

Does the photo of the dog implies that this was a dog-rocket?

Ive had burn like that when i lit it incorrectly, any chance of that? If you start to get a burn like that, wet your finger and wipe it under the burn, it slows it down slightly.

Did my normal light (slow rolling the foot while gently enhaling). Although like Eugenesax mentioned it was a bit windy during thelighting process.
But now I know about the wetting the cigar with the finger Thanks to you and other members.

You may wish to try storing your smokes at a lower humidity, quite a few people recommend around 65%.
