Are regional editions a unique blend or the same blend as the regular line, but in a different vitola?

I really like the idea of regional editions, but have yet to try any. I have always wondered if they are a unique blend in limited production and worth the extra money that they command.

I think you will find the answer elusive. Other than a way to charge more money of course.

Having smoked regionals from all over the world (courtesy of Ajay!), I would say they are a unique blend.

For example, the Boli Legendarios (Switzerland) looks very similar to the Colosales (Germany), but they are much different in flavour (the Colasales being a more complex and full smoke in my opinion)

i'd say they are a special blend different from the reglar line, Ive only tried a couple of regionals the most notable being the Punch D'oro UK and imo its like nothing else in the range.

They are certainly different. More smoke... and mirrors.

All the cigars in a marca will have different blends, by virtue of their different sizes, though most of us will agree that particular marcas have particular styles, and have been blended specifically in that way.

Some importers claim to request certain blends or styles of cigar for their regional editions that will please the peculiar tastes of their market.

Who knows to what extent this is true. Certainly not me, and I suspect the people who do are going to be the last people to tell you.

Without a doubt, however, they are a marketing triumph.

I was recently given a tipbit about LEs from someone who's in the know (very in the know).

Apparently Cuba had excess stock of mudoro/dark wrappers etc which were considered below par. LEs fitted the bill at the time as far as marketing was concerned, and were a bit of a gamble as far as the dark wrappers were concerned. It obviously payed off.

I'd agree with that Sy
They tend to use a mature, and top quality tobacco in there RE's, which we're told is different to that used in regular production.
As for the EL's thats usually 3 to 5 yr old tobacco and more often Maduro Wrappers.

however hoyo regalos is pure hoyo taste, and boli petit beli is pure bolivar, definitely depends on the particular release

They are sure unique blend but the price that they charge is Outrageous .

My understanding was that they are the same blend, but if a distributor/retailer orders certain quantity, then they'll be willing to custom make certain brands in the requested size and shape.

That'll explain why the early LEs looked like they'd been assembled by Stevie Wonder...some of the 2000/2001 lot were pretty shabby looking....
