Cheers HabanoSy, but there's three Punch Super Selecci?n's .... the No. 1, the 11 and the 12. Which would you go for?
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

      The Royal Seleccions Tippexx...!?!?!

      The No.11 definitely...

The No.12 is also great, but needs many, many years of ageing...

      Cheers, HabanoSy

tippexx: I think you may be getting the Super Selections mixed in with the Royal Selections.

I'm aware of Punch Super Selection No.1 and No.2's

I'm also aware of Punch Royal Selection No.11 and No.12's

Never heard of a Punch Super Selection No.12 though?

While I've enjoyed them all. Here is how I would rank them.

        1. Punch SS2
        2. Punch SS1
        3. Punch RS12
        4. Punch RS11

The SS1, RS11 & 12's smoke much better with a few years on them 3-4 and the SS2 requires the most aging. I would give them a good 7 years min.

I understand there are many ardent Punch fans, and I do not see the systemic issue w/ construction across the marca, however, I have a hard time recommending the '08 & '09 Punch Punch to anyone. Its not the construction, but the strength that is at issue. The cigar is a shadow of it's former self. Once a very powerful, mid-sized cigar, now is a 97lb weakling. I remember top-notch '02 and '04 Punch Punch. I havent had one that good in a long while. Until I see one that has some spine, I'll keep my recommendation the same.

I'm a big punch fan, they do need age though, I must be really lucky as I've never had a plugged one! SS 1/2 are very hard to find now, but RS11/12 are findable, RS 11 is my fav, similar profile to Punch Punch old blend, MRN also rate's RS 11's as a great smoke, I've a few left of 97's which I'm saving for another 6/8 years.

If you find some with age....grab em.

03 Punch Punch from a cab is one of my favorite cigars. I ended up cleaning out a vendor who had 6 cabs of AIS JUN03. Only problem is that I'm down to 3 cabs so it's time to hunt for more...

Might be sacrilegious to some but I prefer an aged Punch Punch to an SS2.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the Punch. In my own experience I have never had a badly constructed Punch Punch and the 2003 and 2004 production in my collection is smoking almost perfectly at the moment.

Others have mentioned a preference for the Black Prince which is one Punch that I've found to be a bit harsh when new but very tasty with a few years of age.

I recently found a cabinet of RS 11 in Havana and they are smoking very well but I'm not sure about further ageing potential. I'll get back to you in 3-4 years.

A good one is enjoyable sweet orange. Quality seems to vary stick to stick.

I've never had a plugged Punch Punch. I do prefer the RS11 by far though, at least from the couple of post-01 vintages I've had. Stronger, more flavourful. My 07 cab is one of the strongest cigars I own.
