  • In SLB or in Humi

Folks, pardon me if this has been up beofre, but when I receive a SLB of cigars, do I need to put them in the humi? Or can I leave them in the box for a coupla years?

In the humi if you've the room .... otherwise SLB into a tuppador.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

I keep all mine in the boxes, mainly because I don't have a proper humi.
The box does need to go in a humidity controlled environment however, just to clarify ie. the SLB won't act as a humidor.

I understand general consensus says storage in the box is fine, and that wooden cabs are better than dress boxes for aging.

Always better to store in their Cedar boxes imo.

Agreed. Boxes r always better unless have one humidor dedicated to a sigle type of cigar

Keep it in the box and put the box directly into your humidor. I don't know if this is what you meant, but you can't leave the cigars in the SLB outside of the humidor. Keep them in the box as long as the whole box fits in your humidor, if it doesn't, then take them out of the box and put the cigars in your humidor.

Have definately found that cigars lose some of their individual characteristics when stored loose in a humi with other types....consequently, just had to shell out on a second humi that is big enough to store boxes in

I keep all mine in the original boxes until there are only a few left and then they go in the singles drawer

Pardon my confusion but are you asking if its better to but the cigars in the humidor or to leave them in the SLB with out the benifit of regulated RH?

If so singles in a RH controled unit is better if not in the box would be okay if the ambient RH is high enough and stable - however I would put the whole SLB in a tupperware with some sore of RH unit.

Yes they should stay in the SLB, however being a smartass I'd like to add that SLBs are not made of cedar wood. That's why they contain an additional sheet of cedar.

According to Trevor's CubanCigarWebsite.com, it is now cedar-veneered plywood.
