reviving dry cigars!!!! help!!!!

hello all,
had to go down to my local postal collection point today to collect a parcel inspected by 'you know who'!!! was only a 3 pack of cohiba robustos, charged ?15!!! they've been among the missing for the best part of 3 weeks and by the looks of it they've been well looked at!!! anyway, though they look fantastic, they feel hard and dry! how long do you guys reckon it'll take to revive them? is it even possible? my humidor is always between 66% RH and 70%RH!!!!

I have revived cigars and it takes a few weeks. Put them in a small zip lock bag and close it. Then punch a few holes in the bag. Put the small ziplock with the cigars in it inside a larger ziplock bag that has a wet paper towel in it and close that one off too. Set aside in your humidor for about a week. Then pull them out and put them in your humidor for another week or two. They should be back to normal.

The idea is to slowly introduce moisture. If you do it too fast they will explode. There are also sites that explain this method in better detail, but I found this is a simple way to do it. Good luck!

I had a 3-pack of Hoyo PRs that took a while to turn up from Puro and I just put them in my humi as normal. These were actually the best I'd ever tasted so yours may not be permanently killed.

They do say bringing the humidity up slowly reduces stresses though so in a sealed bag with a pinprick or two in your humi might be better than just putting them straight in.

Must admit I had my party Series P2's arrive yesterday which had the very same treatment only costing a few fine hard worked pounds more but put them straight in my humidor, did'nt know about the 'exploading', Can anyone explain how they would expload? Do they take on moisture and burst thro their skins so to speak?

a little concerned now as they do look fantastic smokes

I would just stick them into your humi as long as it is at a reasonable RH. You shouldn't experience any split wrappers (which is what I presume is meant by exploding) as long as the humidity does not get too high. Cigars do not naturally absorb moisture all that quickly from the air, relatively speaking, so they would gradually acclimate to your humi. I would say don't smoke them for a while though, at least a few weeks.

I don't think it will be a big worry Alex. The ambient humidity for the UK has been pretty high for the last few weeks. 91% here today. So, unless they were detained in a steel mill they should be fine.

I'm with the 'pop them in the luurve nest as they are' brigade on this one. With you're RH where it is, I'm sure you'll be fine. As Dave says, if you want to be ultra cautious, guard them for a week or so in a perf'd bag.

It's a freakin' see-gar (CC, NC, or DogRocketC), not nitroglycerin! Pop 'em in the humi, check 'em every week or so, and fire when ready, Gridley!

There are some who would make cigar-smoking a religion, with strict rules based on myths and legends. FYI: They're dried up leaves! Humidors were scientifically designed by NASA's best engineers to KEEP CIGARS! Let it do its job!

They tend to split and unravel if they go from a really dry state to a more humid area. If you live in a place that experiences very hot summers and long cold winters like I do , then you probably have already experienced cigars splitting and unraveling. They "explode" like this because the leaves expand when they absorb moisture and if the thicker leaves that make up the filler expand more quickly than the thin wrapper leaves you have a problem.

But no one ever wants to take the time to nurse a cigar back to health slowly, so I guess you should take everyone's advice and throw caution to the wind and toss them into your humidor. If they split badly throw them out. I actually enjoyed taking the time to revive my Bolivar #1s slowly. When I got them from Ireland they were hard as rocks. After 2 1/2 weeks I had them spongy and healthy looking again. I checked on them everyday and when they were ready to be smoked it was more satisfying to me. But what do I know. I'm no rokkit scientist.

reviving an old thread as i just recieved some ramon allones SS today that i had been waiting for for nearly a month! These are looking pretty hard now and one of the cigars has split as you know who put the cigar in back to front!!!! All the rest look fine so will just put them in the humidor and hopefully they will be fine
