I'm still trying to work out how they like to be stored best-the PC does seem rather temperamental.

Tasting notes,

LOL.First time I read this I thought it was a tasting note."Keep your eyes peeled, your arse up, head down, and your ear to the gound" WHISKY77

Nice as a morning smoke - creamy coffee sometimes with a little sugar or honey , they can have some earthy notes too but I've not really detected any in this box yet, they are mild to mild/medium, between a JL PC and a Sancho Bachilleres in flavour, Monte Carlos are good too, although these are better with a bit of age, similar taste, maybe a little fuller with some burnt caramel, both are no better than your normal morning smokes, but worth putting in the rotation....

I love PL's. Vintage PL's have an intensely mouth coating caramel sweetness that is unmatched in my experience. As for recent ones, I find the panatelas and the montecarlos much more approachable early on. The PC's are good, but I feel they need 3-4 years to really come into their own.

I found my cab of PC's great for the first 12+ months after which they lost their wonderful liveliness & just became an ok smoke. I haven't tried one for nearly 2 years.
The same happened to a cab my brother bought at the start of the decade & he reckoned they stayed 'in their shell' for more than 3 years. His cigars had the most amazing gamey/animally bouquet to them the like of which I've not come across with any other brand save perhaps for Gloria C's. My PL's also have/had a definite element of this - more noticeable to me than sweet or caramel notes.
Anyone else noted similar with PC's or other PL's?

I'll probably just try one every 3 months from my cab. I'll know when they are ready.

NOTE: From personal experience this can be a slippery slope: "deffinitely be better in 2 or 3 years, but maybe I'll just have another one now...." I've got several boxes/cabs reaching the height of maturity with only a handful of sticks still remaining. Perhaps the answer is cabs of 100?

I did last week, very nice but not mind blowing.
The eternal challenge ...'i'll just check in on the box and try one' and by the time they really peak there are 3 left!
Still it can go the other way when a box flattens out, passes it's peak never to return (take a look at the Cohiba Seleccion Reserva 2003, now down to $425 for a box of 30, smooth smoke but nothing else going on).Originally posted by Simon BolivarLittle medical correction there Steve, you will surely die...but not from smoking these

These are the best PC I have tried. I rate them higher than other small smokes like the Trini reyes and RA SCC.

In most of my experiences with vintage and aged cigars though, cigars can last decades easily in proper storage conditions. I've also heard mixed reviews of the Cohiba Seleccion Reservas, both recently and initially. Another consideration is that cigars go through several maturation cycles where they go up and down, perhaps your seleccion reservas are just in one of the down cycles in their maturation and they will come back around later?
