these are the cuban cigars i've found to be consistently pleasing, and not too expensive for someone starting off!

Lascaux is spot on.

I steered clear of the DC size because of the time they took to smoke - I have little of it I have had a few in recent months and they are really a cut above the shorter smokes in richness and complexity. I haven't got to my Partagas Lusitanias yet but loved the RA Gigantes and SLR DC. I think that these are in a different league to the shorter smokes - I get little from the Trini Reyes/RASCC and would lose these two for a good DC.

And you can't leave out the Partagas SP2. You just can't

Chris, you need to include a Montecristo and an SLR in that short list, only get one from each brand, drop the RASCC for a SLR DC, and one of the JL's for a Monte Sublime or No.2, in fact 15/20 would be a better number to make a balanced list. You need to try a Punch and a Vegas Robaina also.

There are 7 brands where you can pick at least 2 from, Bolivar, Cohiba, H. Upmann, Hoyo, Montecristo, Partagas and Romero y Julieta. It's not easy to pick which is best as it will depend on your taste, all the smoke's the BOTL have suggested are good, but it doe's depend on the amount of time you have available and your budget. Each brand has a 'house' taste profile, Cohiba's are grassy, Hoyo's are woody, Monte's are spicy etc, etc, Punch has a dried fruit taste, this is a rough guide as they all overlap a little too, one thing is for sure...you will enjoy trying them all....

First post from a newbie here, but I would have to say your list could do with at least one cohiba, I tried a Sigla II the other night, shortish smoke but top draw, certainly recommend it.

Would love to join in this properly, but really too newbie to give a considered judgement. Got two humidores now and around 50 CCs which I've collected as 'samplers' or selected as individual cigars. I've mostly avoided what I call 'big cigars' (sorry Lascaux no Lusitanias) 'cos big rings worry me a bit. I do have one or two biggish cigars, which I ordered more by accident than design ? Montechristo Especial, Especial No. 2, Montecristo No. 2, El Ray del Mundo Choix Supreme, Dunhill Signed Torpedo an' Toro being examples.

What they taste like I havn't a clue, kinda saving them up till the weather turns in Spring 'cos I don't fancy an hour or so on one cigar in the conservatory. As it is, but not counting the two or three Punch Petit Coronation or Upman Juniors I get every weekend from Waitrose, I've only smoked 3 cigars from my hoard ? Fonseca 1, La Hoya du Depute and Por Larranaga Petit Coronas ? but they tasted damm good to me!

id say pick and mix singles from 1001cubans. will cost you a 1/3 to 1/2 of the price of those. and you can get exactly what you want!

Yeah, only thing is I don't want to run the risk of getting stung with extra hidden duty etc. I may take a drive up to Windsor and head for Havana House at the end of the month, that's where I'll be buying my Humi from anyway.
