The perception gap: how well do you know your country? Take our quiz

Ipsos Mori surveyed people in 40 countries on issues ranging from attitudes to homosexuality to numbers of Muslims, and found the gulf between perception and reality is often huge. Our quiz lets you see if you can do any better

Just goes to show, the way we perceive the world often has little to do with reality.

While I agree with your sentiment again Niels I think the point with HSA is not the current portfolio split but rather the change in the last 10 years, or even more stark the last few. If you look at deletions and new releases it will paint a very different picture (I think or I have a perception issue ). I think you’ll find the deletion of many thinner sticks and the release of almost exclusively 50+ RG sticks. Again not particularly surprising considering this maximises profits and appeals most to the posers although it’s at the detriment of true BOTLs IMO. That’s not to say there aren'tsome very good 50+ sticks just that variety in releases is lacking and prices are rocketing.

Oh, absolutely, I agree. There are more new thick ones coming out than thin ones. I just wanted to illustrate that it is not as bad as many think.

From my perspective cigars used to be thinner and the current portfolio is simply an expansion to a wider spectrum, which I personally appreciate. Looking at the bell shaped distribution from thin to thick though, I feel that the plan is not to move away from thin formats altogether, but it was simply an expansion of the range.

The success of many thin REs would give me confidence that in 10 years time there will still be plenty of slim sticks around. Especially when I see just how many here are die hard skinny sticks fans.

Hopefully you are right and this is HSA adding variety and balancing the size of the sizes on offer, I fear it’s a shift and in 10 years nothing but the fatties (and a few classics like Cohiba Lanceros) will remain.

Probably but if you go on buying cigars at this rate you will have enough sticks for life in less than 10 years.

What bothers me is that cigars are getting more expensive every year. Some countries like France have plans to rise cigar prices severly in the coming years. Between HSA becoming more and more greedy and taxes on tobacco rising it's better to stock up now because we won't be able to afford a box of CoLa 5 years from now.

Yeah, price hikes are bad and won't get any better for CCs, no matter what the government does. Brexit will make it harder to get good quantities of stock from abroad trips. The future is to smoke less or pay UK prices.

I agree. But even here in France or in Germany prices have gone up quite a bit. I sometimes look at the tax band of boxes that I purchased in Germany a few years ago and compare those prices to what they sell for now. The PLPC for example went from €310 to €345 in 5 years...

I'm sure not all smaller smokes will go i.e. monte 4, boli pc. However, I can see why HU are deleting some on the smaller lines, may have something to do with the HUHC being so popular.
