Anyone else got a copy of Havana Cigars by Min Ron Nee? Not a bedtime read but a very useful resource book.

I wish I did. The prices for a copy are pretty crazy now.

One can get the Spanish or the German edition for around ?100. But it wouldn?t be much use to you guys.

It?s a beautiful and very interesting book but it doesn?t make to much sense anymore. To me anyways. 70% of the cigars covered in it are almost impossible to find and the blends have changed for quite a few of the ones that are available. And there?s a ton of cigars missing.

If an updated edition would be released one day I would immediately buy a copy though.

I remember when the update was about to be released... to say it generated discussion would be an understatement

You'd have needed a lot of spare cash and friends in high places to get hold of one

Yeah, and it was so big that you’d need to leave it behind if you would ever move.

I have a English copy I bought from our sponser many years ago & it cost me ?55, which I noted at the time was the most I'd ever paid for a book (stop laughing Stevieboy!) I have certainly had my money's worth out of it & refer to it most leaves. I don't agree there are a ton of missing cigars, at least not from the date of publication. We have had numerous ER & EL's since that aren't mentioned & it's true ones that were released just a couple of yrs before publication are shown but he doesn't give tasting notes for as it's was too soon to give an opinion.
I wouldn't pay more than ?100 for one today but the new edition was going to be ?3,500 as a special pre-release price, standard price expected to be ?5,000! That could have gone up due to the extra work he has done since & extra printing costs ect.
A practical solution: firstly we have the Cuban Info site on our phones, no tasting notes but everything else you're likely to need, secondly, if you really like to carry a small reference book http://cigarcyclopedia.com/cyclopedi...edia-of-cigars
I have the previous edition & there really is some very interesting info in there but be sure you order the Cuban version, otherwise you'll get the other one which covers loads of NC's.

That's a daft price. Anyone paying that for a modern book wants their heads checking. If expect a good condition Gutenberg Bible for that.

well, I believe it’s something like at least 10 huge volumes in a finely crafted bamboo casing that weighs in at 30 kg or something - so not just a little handbook mate

Oh...ha ha. That's almost WORSE!!! HAVENT they seen what became of encyclopaedia britannica??? 30 volumes in a bamboo case vs an iPad...hmmm

Dont get me.wrong, im not Philistine, but you wont be packing a bamboo case to take on your holidays for a quiet poolside peruse

Thanks for the link. Interesting indeed.

Simon B...ive just read read your post and it is worth of more comment than I gave it. Thanks. On the subject of tasting notes I wonder if there's more value in reading reviews from multiple smokers, spread over more time, than just MRN?
