The cigars I Smoked in 2018

So for the last couple of yrs I have listed my top 20 or 50 & have been asked what were my worst so this year & publish the
complete list. Due to the limitations of this site I will have to split it into a few posts. Column 3 is the RG, Column 4 Date on box & Column 5 my score .>>

So a few observations, the total was 170, my second highest total (highest being 171 in 2015), a more avge figure over that 6yrs would be
around 155; the long summer & holidays in Portugal & Cuba helping there. No DC?s let lone Monte A?s were smoked, the avge RG being 40, as it has been
for a few yrs. 36 were judged 90+, around 20%.only 10% 92+, the avge score being 85, which again is fairly consistent for me. I guess
is why we appreciate great smokes when we hit a real gem.

Only 23 were 4yrs old or less & only the La Flor de Cano ER 2016 & the Trini Trova 2017 making it above 90pts in the fresh group. There
are cigars from the 60?s & 70?s but the 98?s & 99?s are probably peaking now & can be rather wonderful. Scoring is always subjective but I work on
the method of splitting into 5 categories, marking each out of 10 & then doubling to give a mark out of 100. 1/ Appearance, 2/Draw/Ash/Smoke/Construction, 3/ Flav (most important aspect for me), 4/
Value & 5/ Overall Satisfaction. >>

I have only awarded 100pts twice over 20yrs so to get 96+ they have to be pretty mind blowing. One further note, the ERDM PL?s I have
given 96, they could easily be judged 100. If you were making it solely on its own & having had a dozen that smoked as well as the first, then I think it
would be justified. But when comparing across the range of Havana?s & speaking as a skinny stick lover, there is only so much you can get from a skinny stick.
The same flav & construction from a 38RG would easily make 100 for me. >>

Only a few NC's last year, the 1960's Jamaican's being by far the best. I never buy NC's but get gifted a few, I smoke them during Lent, along with Cubans that cost me E5 or less. Never found an NC I wanted to buy having tried it, I have had some that were OK but no, not to my taste. And yes I do make basic notes for each cigar & score them, recording it in my diary & then later typing it up into my spreadsheets.

I sometimes do score when i smoke when i can remember. But its a simpler system, 90 means i'd buy a box and everything is +/- from there. A not nice tasting stick might be in the 70's.

Ah, but if we only smoked our best cigars all the time, they would become 'ordinary', having them occasionally (along with many good smokes), let's us appreciate their finer qualities.

Agreed PJ, but perhaps when you are in your Man cave smoking a 6" NC, you'll have time to glance over it?
