Siglo VI - Less than 12months old

Hi guys,

I picked up a Siglo VI for my Xmas day smoke but the box date is April this year. Will it be too young to smoke? I'm concerned that it'll be unpleasant. Being one of my more expensive sticks I don't want to waste it but it's only one of two I have with me while I'm visiting family over the next couple of days.

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated!

I would personally let it rest. I have found Cohibas are best with around 5 years on them, though you may prefer them younger. If you have some sticks available to you in your humidor that you know you enjoy, they may be a safer bet for Christmas.

I personally will only smoke my siglos if they have at least 7-8 years to really enjoy them.

The other thing that you might want to consider is how long you will realistically have to smoke... a Siglo VI will last you a good couple of hours at least. Again, in my experience.

Definitely let it rest. You will be disappointed if you smoke it now. I smoked a 2015 Sig 6 in 2016 and it was underwhelming, to say the least. I'll be resting the last of the trio for a few years yet!

Definitely agree with this,i find with Cohibas you have to let them rest otherwise you will be disappointed when they are smoked young,mainly because of the price when compared to other brands.

Yes, yes of course you can leave it. For a few months? A year? 3? 5? 7? 14? Unless you have a load of them to try periodically until you may find a sweet spot, its a bit mute I think. If its your first it will be a new experience any which way! If you're a patient man sit on it until you're ready. You won't know when the stick is ready

Give it a sniff, if it smells nice and you want to go for it, light it up! Give it the time it will need to smoke though as has been said!

But certainly dont rush it!

Some people love the taste of a fresh stick. Some certainly do not.

Either way, if you do decide to light it up, let us know how you get on with it!

Thanks Ha_Banos, I've only got the one and I'll have plenty of time to smoke it. I'll see how I feel tomorrow, if I can resist then I will leave it for a while.

I've smoked some relatively new cohibas recently and they've been enjoyable, although I definitely enjoy aged cigars more (3yrs+).

Agree Dale. I would always recommend 3-5yrs on Cohiba's & the bigger sticks like the Sig VI are probably best at 7-10yrs but that's not realistic for a single, try &make it your next Christmas smoke;it'll certainly smoke better &if you enjoy it, you can start hunting for some with a few yes on them already.

I've done loads of young Cohibas and as a rule they've been magic. Just tonight I had a 2018 Medio Siglo and on Xmas day I had a Piramides Extra from 2017 both of which were excellent. The five year rule for Cohiba might once hadn't been true but I think those days are gone..... Smoke 'em if you've got 'em
