Never experienced a major discount anywhere before, but when Dubai Intl marks their 35 anniversary with a 25% discount on everything, then the wife will hate you 25% less. When you then discover you have a friend passing through that same airport, then what's not DO BUY

Nice play on words. And a bargain is only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway [emoji39]

Also love the fact you have referenced a Hamlet quote, which is set in your homeland!

Oh, on so many levels you have won, my good man!

Except I recall that they put up their tax on tobacco products by 100% recently so how much of a bargain is a 25% discount.

The Palmera was exactly the same price as when I flew by in jan 2018, so apparently at least no tax hike since then - I also believe their tobacco tax is somewhere in the vicinity of 7% - so a 100% increase would not mean the world.

I bow to your superior knowledge but its one place I shall never visit so it matters not. @cigarmo looked for some Opus there for me last month and they were more expensive than an online source we all know. Good opportunist buy though.

So a 100% tax, not a 100% increase. A big ouch for the unwary.

La Palmera 170 USD/case and Byblos 260 USD/case incl. 25% discount, That is excellent prices.
Tax going in has nothing to do with duty free.

That's where you are wrong. Here's the article I read earlier in the year

Shamz, I think we agree, however in my lifetime I was never used to anything called duty free for arriving passengers, in my perspective that’s something that was introduced fairly recently. I never buy anything other than from my departing airport.
Stocks were fairly plenty of Palmera, there are 3 tobacco stores in the one terminal, and this one only had the one case of Byblos. The others had more I was told.

if you fly regular with Emirates and in their frequent flyers club you can use your air miles for purchases in Dubai duty free, have not tried it with cigars

Pretty ok, but it varies a lot I think. No old stuff, but on a good day plenty of the Phoenicia regionals.
