Or wrap some plain white kitty litter in a net and let it soak up the moisture. Something like the foot of an old pair of tights will do.

they hold a huge amount of water.... and release it very slowly. kitty litter is a highly porous medium that absorbs mutlipe times its own weight, and is inert (if you get the fragrance free). it is often used by bonsai enthusiasts to add an affordable water retaining medium into soil that will release its water content when the medium around it drys out. the alternative is a specific sort of clay or if you can get them some spoils form blast furnaces which again are light weight but highly porous...

a bag of tesco kitty littler is pennies... but boveda it aint.

Exactly, it should soak up the excess humidity and then you can bin it.

so i take the true reading as 69 and deduct - id be better getting good meters or are they all the same?

The better ones are up to +/- 2% so you can replace one if you want.

I'd just mark it with a sticker or something to remember the difference and go with it. Until you fancy a new one anyways

I forgot to update the post sorry - im sitting at 58% with a single large 65% bovida in my small humi and 59% in my large humi with 3x69% bovidas.

originally i had mould issues on a few sticks with uncalibrated hygrometers

after 5 months at the same 58-59% i have no issues with mould or quality.

im still not that experienced and believe my humidity is a bit low but wouldn't say my sticks are too dry!

either my taste has changed or the cigars have improved

I saw one of your posts a while back, where I think you said you used quite a few. So I accepted I'd get humped by customs charges and put a big order in.

I think 59 is actually ok. Mine hovers around 62 to 65 and i think they burn much better than at 70.

The burns I experience seem completely random. Different sticks from the same humidor behave differently.

Not noticed same sticks same humidor yet to be sure. I get problems with the odd 1 now and again, rarely. Mostly everything is quite fine.

I have them between 65-70%. But I do open and check them frequently...
