  • A straight choice...

...between a R&J Short Churchill and a Monte Edmundo.

Opinions please! He (or, she) who posts the most convincing argument affects what I go and buy (and help for a newbie is much appreciated).

Both great smokes and you won't be unhappy but I'd go for the Edmundo...just because it's got the edge for complexity IMO

      Buy both

What about buying a box of 10 RyJ and a few 3 packs of Edmundos.

Short Churchies win as a day-to-day smoke but the Edmundo can be good, good, good.

Find out what box codes your supplier has and post the dates here. That's your best bet IMHO.

I would say the RyJ SC.

It has a slightly less powerful flavour to that of the Edmundo. If you are just starting out then it can be better to begin with less full bodied cigars and work your way up to the stronger flavours.

Others may dissagree however. They are both pretty good in their own rights and you would de well with either, but I say the RyJ.

Thanks, chaps. I shall report back this afternoon.

Spacemonkey - a box of ten would be lovely (although my bank account may not think so) but I really only wanted a couple to take to a BBQ!

I am biased due to the R&J I tried were shit.Edmundos are a great smoke, good flavour, construction and consistancy.

I had my first SC last week and it was so plugged that I got more draw out of the match I used to light it.

I have a box of Edmundos on the other hand that, wth a little age on them, have become more and more pleasing.

I can see that there is going to be a problem with this forum as a source of advice for which to buy...I popped into JJ Fox this afternoon and got a few singles of both to try - I can already see the "buy everything" approach looming! Why do all of my hobbies end up like this?

Went for the Short Churchill last night - very much enjoyed it, but did find the burn a little uneven. I shall revisit at some point in the next week. I think tomorrow may see one of the Edmundos!
