  • San Diego lineup

I'm flying out to San Diego for a week tomorrow. This means a ton of work during the days and meeting some of my friends in the evening and smoking a ton of cigars with them. Here's my lineup for the week (multiple cigars are for various buddies. I'm even bringing two of my cherished du Gourmets for a couple of friends..... ).
Let's hope that they'll bring something good as well.

    Must See In SD!

San Diego - one of my favorite places in the world. I assume you will be hanging out in the Gaslight district for fun, frivolity and fine cigars. But an absolute "must see" is the original "Old Town San Diego, home of one of the oldest cigar/pipe shops in the west - Larimie and Racine. Here's a link to my post which includes a picture of the old western establishment.

And don't let the locals tell you that the Gaslamp District IS Old Town. IT AIN'T! The original Old Town is about 10 minutes north of SD located near the airport. Great history, that place.

It's a wonderful, historic place to visit, purchase a cigar or two (or some pipe tobacco) and sit out on the old western style porch, put your feet up and watch the world go by for hours. That's what I did when I was there in May. BTW, this is where I was introduced to the fantastic 2016 Regius Orchant Limited Edition by Matt, the resident sherriff!

And if you fancy a more modern shop (can't remember the name), there's a B&M a few steps away just outside the historic district that has an excellent stock of Davidoff (and other fine NCs) along with a lovely outside patio.

So, don't surrender to the bright lights, the wafting aroma of fine cigars, or the short shorts that adorn the local lovelys in the Gaslamp district, spend at least one day/evening in Old Town. You won't regret it, partner. I guarantee it!

I have been going to San Diego once a year since 2001 and love it.

I am not too fond of the Gaslamp district, especially during Comic-Con. To many people and to noisy. In the first years I went I loved the Gaslamp district and we went every evening to Dick's Last Resort to get shitfaced. Nowadays I favor to get a decent dinner and then enjoy a few pints and cigars with my pals. I love having steak at Fleming's, otherwise we have a quick dinner at the Redfields which is located in the Manchester Hyatt where they have a small outside patio for cigar smokers. A table isn't easy to get, that's why we eat a lot there. And when I have a few pints to many I just have to go up a few floors to find my room.

I went a few times to Old Town and liked it there. There's a Mexican restaurant there that I liked (I don't remember the name) which serves huge Margueritas.

Thank you for the tips regarding cigar stores. But we will each have quite a few sticks with us. I smoke most NC's while I'm there since one buddy doesn't have to many Cubans. The rest of the year I have maybe 3 more.

Ahhh, I think I understand. I've heard it's a bitch getting old. Must be true!

In that case, I won't share any of the familia Coro move lively adventures just a few minutes south of San Diego across the boarder.

Well, get some rest amigo and enjoy you're trip! San Diego is a geat place for all ages, according to senior citizen don TJ

Reckon you'll also grab some NCs while you're out there?

Haha, I'm not old. Just favor to sit down and enjoy a few pints and cigars quietly with my pals. San Diego is a freaking zoo during Comic-Con.

I never have been to TJ yet. Maybe I should one day

Yeah, I've been there during Comic-con and agree...it's a mess to be avoided. And it sounds like you are right in the middle of it (July 20-23). All the more reason to visit Old Town or Tijuana! They have a great LCdH there where they serve a mean mojito. Tell Moises (Mgr) TJCoro sent you.

Word of caution, however. Go during the day and travel in a pack. It's a pretty lively town, but gets really wild when the sun goes down.

So, if you decide to go, you can either take the trolly to the border (very convenient) or drive down, park in the US side, walk across the border and catch a cab to your destination. The LCdH is on Av. Revolucion. Usual LCdH prices. You might even want to pick up Mexico's New Reginal Puro - Edmundo Dantes Conde Belicoso!

The Edmundo Dantes Conde Belicoso, the new addition to Mexico's Regional Editions, has arrived in the country's Casas del Habano retail shops. The fat belicoso, 5 1/2 inches by 54 ring gauge, has a rich, dark, reddish-brown wrapper, and is being sold in boxes of 10. The 2016 Regional Edition Exclusivo Mexico sells for 5,500 pesos per box—about $266.45, or $26.65 per cigar. | Cigar Aficionado

                              Have fun!
