No10: Belinda's & Davidoff?s. A few months ago a certain member was interested in an auction lot of 3 boxes of mixed Belinda
vitola's. Unfortunately due to a mix up he didn't win them but as I had commented on the thread, a Belgian friend of mine said he also had the same
boxes & would I be interested? The long & short of it was that I bought them & rather than have them posted home & possibly have a
problem with them in transit or even a problem should my wife being there when they were delivered, I arranged for him to drop them around
next time he was in Antwerp. Somehow I also had ordered 5 Cuban Davidoff Chat Marguax from him so they were delivered together.>

An interesting delivery, the cheapest & dearest Cuban?s I have bought in a single buy ? I imagine. I was interested in the
Belinda?s as I had smoked a couple of boxes of the Princess from ?97 & really enjoyed them as fishing smokes so hoped these we fill that gap in my
line up. The Belinda?s are Petit Princess ECAC CUG, Panatelas EOC Mar 00 & Superfinos LOC EO 00. >

PJ posted last week that he had just smoked a Belinda Panatela & noted the strength of flav & the yellowed cello. Due to my
recent illness I didn?t manage to smoke one until I got to Aberdeen on Wed evening. On arriving at McDee?s, we smoked a pair before dinner. They were just
as described by PJ & I am sure they?ll disappear quickly once I get back pike fishing in Holland, as they are strong enough to enjoy in a slight breeze with
either a coffee or a small beer. The other two vitolas should taste very similar, as they have the same profile.>

I haven?t had a suitable occasion to try one of the Davidoff?s yet but I have packed 3 for Havana, to smoke in El Nacional on the 9th
Nov; which I?ll share with a couple of friends who are attending the Friends of Partagas Festival that starts on the following Monday.>

The last photo shows my inner sanctum box of rare delights, Davidoff No2 & Chat Laffette, & Pre-Rev Josie Garnier Corona
& la Flor de Cano Cedros PC.>

Consolidation. So a clear 6months after Tippex?s cigars arrived at McDee?s & nearly a year after Tippex first mentioned selling
up, I have finally got all my share back home & into humi?s. To do this took several days to make as much space as possible within my current Humi?s to
reduce the need for any additional space. As I was sick for a fortnight & couldn?t smoke or fish so it was the perfect time to finally sort things out. >

I usually prefer to keep stix in their box until down to the last 2-3 but sometimes needs must & a few boxes were emptied with more than
that. Luckily my singles 5/7 drawer Humi?s were rather low so these were topped up first. Then boxes were moved within Coolidors to make some more space &
the Aristocrat Cabinet emptied & re-stocked as efficiently as possible, whilst trying to allow some residual space for air flow.>

I managed to empty 7boxes & only needed to buy one plastic box to contain the overspill. Once the numbers of cigars go down, I
will empty this into the other Coolidors, although it?ll probably take a year or so.>

Just when I thought I?d got everything sorted, & put to bed, my wife went & found some cigars in the ice cream compartment
of the freezer. I tried to act like I knew they were there but to be honest, I couldn?t think what there were; turns out so be some of the singles I bought in
St Kitts last Dec! I am confident no livestock will be re-animated after this time lapse, I can only hope the flav hasn?t been frozen forever in time as well. Will let you know how they smoke in due course.>

Moral of the story: Eat ice cream more often! >

No12 History shots: With new members joining all the time, some with a dozen cigars or less in a tupperwear box, I thought some might be interested/ warned how such modest beginnings can morph into far larger collections than they ever imagined! The first shows the size of my collection, shortly before joining the original UK internet cigar group Club Havana (included such illustrious members as Martyn, Big Barney, Puff of Wind, Bnelly & CA). You can see my first humi' which was the 50 stick box that my wife bought me for a Wedding Anniversary, whilst we on hols in Spain. Originally this held everything I had but by the stage this photo was taken it was a Monte only box. No4's & No2's. Two yrs later I persuaded the wife I needed a larger humi & bought the 5 drawer one from a German site on Ebay for less than half of the price we later saw if for in a Spanish Tabac. In there I can see RG PanX, Party Shorts, Hoyo Epi No2's, a Hoyo DC & a mix of Cohiba's. I had just bought the Party No2's from a internet dealer in Portugal & the cab behind, is half a Boli CG 50 cab. CigarCollection.2006.06.1.jpg
Then on our next holiday to Calpe Spain, I had been a member for a few months & went on a splurge at the local Tabac, the black holdall was full, contents shown in the zip lock bag pic.CigarCollection.2006.07.06.0023.1.jpg These were fitted into a Coolidor that I had rescued from the rig & dragged all the way home from Aberdeen.CigarCollection.2006.07._0033.1.jpg The boxes included: ERDM Grandees, Hoyo Epi No2, Monte Edmundo's & Trini Reyes. Along with some internet buys Boli No1 Tubos & ERDM DT from 1990, my total spend that year was over a grand, where previously it had been a couple of hundred. CigarCollection.2006.07.08.0024.1.jpg Aye & if you have looked at the posts above you'll see the current state of my collection, somewhat larger but I have at least achieved my aim of having aging my own cigars & can now chose a cigar to smoke from nearly every Marca Habanos currently produces (& some discontinued ones). As recently posted this week, I wouldn't recommend newer smokers worrying about aging cigars or buying boxes, it ties up a lot of capital & even though they are easily disposable these days, if you have the collecting gene, you'll never want to let the go anyway! Start by trying a wide range of brands & vitolas & then concentrate on finding similar ones that appeal to you.

Good advice Simon, but there's SOMETHING about opening the box, lifting the thin sheets within and finding the layers of lovely smelling sticks lying there. Mmm

                  Can't wait to get my.
humi full again...currently empty. Really back to square one for me.

Have to agree with you there & cracking the box by smoking the first cigar is always a pleasure & a moment of celebration. I usually do it with my young Belgian herfing buddy Zowie. So far I have managed to open a new box of something ever time we have met, unfortunately he's been working in Munich for the last couple of yrs so our meeting have become somewhat infrequent but he's due to be posted back to Antwerp this summer so looking fwd to cracking a few more boxes with him.
