  • Cuban cigar quality experiencing a downturn

Rob over on FOH just posted a review up of his experiences so far this year and it doesnt make good reading. Now whether you follow him or not, or like his grading system he sees more cigars than most people so can gauge whats happening better than most.

Hard to believe that the first quarter of 2017 is over It has been a helter skelter start to the year for us here and showing no signs of slowing down. Again, I am blessed by a fantastic team who have not only stepped up to the plate in terms of their own workload but are putting their ideas forw...

Very worrying indeed, hopefully the bumper harvest that has recently been reported will result in an improvement in quality next year. Do you think a general lack of tobacco (and quality leaf in respect of the wrappers) is leading to the poor output? I also imagine the expected increase in demand due to the US market is doing little to help as quantity takes priority over quality.

O wow....The underfilling is very worrying...So if you do buy a box like that? Would vendors take them.back?

Thanks for sharing that Shaun, I thought it worthwhile grabbing his photos to show people on here what he means by underfilling

I personally have not had this problem buying to normal cavas in Spain or any other official store in Europe.. May be the paralell market is going "underfilled" by itself.....

Really interesting and terrifying read all round, backed up with some really obscene images
Only the impossible is worth the effort.

Cuban cigar quality experiencing a downturn

Haven't there been bad harvests for a couple of years in a row? That may explain it

I also find that FOH are a bit enthusiastic/OTT (for want of better words) about things sometimes, which I am by no means knocking as I appreciate enthusiasm, and although I haven't posted for a while now I do enjoy the forum, I just sometimes take things they say with a pinch of salt, for example, the way they talk about box codes

Yes they are OTT, especially when reviewing cigars, I often chuckle at those. But its a good source of information, I guess its no surprise, lack of quality tobacco and increased demand is a recipe for quality to nose dive.
