Cigar storage in cardboard box

I recently purchased a 3 box of cohiba Robusto and has been in my humi for about a 3 weeks or so...just opened one up today. I saw some white stuff...but I wasn't to sure if this was pume (I think that's what it's called ) or if it was mould.

I should have taken a photo but I rubbed it off and came off very easily. So Im assuming it's pume..but not sure.

Should I store these cardboard box Cigars naked? Or should I open the lid? As I wasn't sure what the white stuff was, I've decided to open the boxes incase there's too much moisture in the cardboard it self.

My hummi has two boved 69 and normally reads between 67-69.

Is this correct to do?

Take them out the cardboard Shamz as just as your finding, it can lead to mould issues. Give them a good look over to make sure there are no outbreaks or spores hanging around. Brush the Bugger off obviously
The other stuff is 'plume' or 'bloom'

I'm sure people do it in many different ways, but I don't store in the cardboard.
I ditch it.

If its only 3 then get em knto the humi au naturel...no point not. I bought a 15 box of something a while back, and it came as a carton containing 5x3 packs. I ditched the outer and stuck the rest into a spare cigar box and put the lot into a lock n lock. Cardboard in cardboard would worry me, but one layer of card would jot. At the end of the day, do whatever lets you worry least!

Think cardboard absorbs moister too from your boveda and cigars.

Card/paper is also responsible for adding a lively chemical taste and smell to the cigars I find. Yuk, ditch it.

I have both some in cardboard and some out of cardboard, I generally just remove the cardboard and ditch it though!

Just got home and checked my Cigars. It looked a bit like this image but with a bit more thicknesses behind it.



When I found this I went back to the vendor and they assured me this was plume.

I checked my Cigars and it didn't have any stain left as some websites say...but needless ive taken this cigar out put it by it self in a lock n lock box..will keep an eye on it for a few weeks.

Im probably in a minority of one.... But i happen to think that the story of Plume happens to suit vendors down to the ground.

In the world around us think about how many things have oil in them.... Now think about how many of those things randomly have "magical quality" crystals appear on them.

Im coming up fairly blank.

Have to agree with the above.

Mould is unfortunately a fairly common occurrence (avoid cardboard like the plague - it draws in moisture), plume on the other hand.. is as rare as rocking horse poop and takes 'many years' to develop.

Brush it off.. watch your moisture levels.. rotate your stock.. and you'll be fine..!
