Pre embargo cigars.

For some the holy grail of Cuban cigars , commanding huge prices for generally small vitolas .
Buy few realise the real reason , they aren't rolled from a long lost forgotten amazing tobacco , or constructed differently (yes as with most things time changes larger production etc but that happens over decades not say 1962 / 1970)
It all comes down to the US trade embargo where cigars that had been exported before the signing Feb 1962. Can be smoked and sold in the US .
Full boxes attract vast sums at global auctions , for the quality of cigar or smoking a piece of history ?

I don't think it would interest me to be honest.
I am not totally convinced that LE's as a whole, are worth the premium.
I am not giving up on them yet but I would not say they are so much more amazing than a 'normal' smoke.

All about the history and rarity in my opinion, just like rare coins, stamps, etc. And also those old bottles of wine that are so seldom drank that counterfiets are rife. I mean, something of a finite quantity where the number decreases every year and there will never be any more made, it's no suprise that they are so highly sought after.

But that's my point Starkey , other than a date in history with the US there's no difference in a post or pre embargo cigar .

I do like the fact that there were a lot of figurado/perfectos back in the day. I really would like some or at least one of those one day. It's my favourite vitola/shape. Probably for a keepsake

Also worth remembering is that a lot of pre-embargo cigars made in Miami and Tampa will have been made with Cuban tobacco like the Villazon I had the other week.

Only ever had 3 pre embargo Dunhills, I bought them from auction in the late 90's solely to smoke on very special occasions, I and my 2 best men smoked them at my wedding. They were a truly excellent smoke, great draw, Superb but very complex taste, not one draw tasted the same, I remember thinking was is worth the extra pounds ?
