I've had similar issues with Cuaba Divinos & RG Perlas not with Montecristo.

I do not buy Monte 4s have not for a long time, they are great when you can find decent ones but afaik they are still the no1 best sellers and with anything mass produced are subject to construction issues I should think that all new roller's will start on these hence plugged cigars ect well that's my theory

I see the logic, but you could argue that as they're so popular you would think the better rollers would be put on them (I would expect the best to be reserved for the most profitable of course), and less skilled on the lesser known/bought lines (Fonseca and the like)

I wonder in term of proportion how many 4s are considered plugged etc, you would expect more of them to be so just by the law of averages, but it would be interesting to know the % - I have never experienced overly tight draws etc with the 4, but most I have smoked have been forgettable, but as you say when you get a good one they're excellent

Just seems a bad run of luck with these 4s (so far). The 5s were sourced elsewhere and haven't been good at all.
Sorry - didn't mean to suggest you were, I was just saying that I wasn't meaning to in my post

Sorry Sheppsea, I didn't think you were either.

I never thought of it that way I assumed the more experienced rollers would be rolling the higher end and harder to roll cigars
I agree with the forgettable comment more so than plugged cigars which in the last few years have become less of an issue

I'd go with the mass numbers of these being produced impacting upon QC, which isn't acceptable, but a definite consideration. Smaller stick, less room for error in terms of quantity of leaf and throw a lot of rollers in there and...

I love Monte 4 & 5 but I only ever get mine from Pres. Never had a bad one via his method. In fact, never had a single duff cigar from him. Well worth the wee bit extra for sheen, smell, lovely wrappers etc

                  Maybe it was just a bad box?....maybe they're over-humidified?

So who buys the cast offs with the dull wrappers and no smell then?

Where do crap cigars that have been picked though and rejected go to die?

We'll probably never know, but you would certainly hope the best rollers go with the higher end/hard to roll cigars
