  • Not happy..................

Not had a cigar since Xmas day and was out this evening for a few drinks wth my brother prior to my mothers birthday celebrations tomorrow and slipped a couple of Ramon Allones Swiss regional edition perfectos into my JJ Fox double Robusto 2 finger case to see out the evening.

Well it's probably been 2 years since I had caught the Cuban bug and tonight was my first plugged cigar.

I pre cut the cigars before I left home for convenience and after a few pints of various ales and the usual sanctuary of an Indian restaurant it was time for a fairly comfortable smocking establishment only to very disappointed. My brothers was fine but mine was so tight it would barely draw. It was quite obvious it was the foot end of the cigar as it was rock solid.

After freeing it up as best I could, the flavours were excellent, smooth and mellow with no harshness or spicy peppery tones.

Oh, what a shame, still, I do still have a few left which hopefully will be worthy of R.E Status.

It is frustrating isn't it? I always take a spare just in case now. Bought a three pack of Upman JCs and all three of them were plugged. Sent cgars an email and had a reply from Mitch within 1 minute saying replacements were on the way, so happy ending for me. Sorry yours wasn't

There's been comments/complaints of these being a little underfilled, so you must be in the minority. Bugger. Either way, it's disappointing to get a tricky stick and if reading you right that in two years, it was your first plugged cigar, that's an impressive batting average

Glad to read that you enjoyed it once you had worked each other out. First dates ay!!

I can count on one hand the number of plugged sticks I've had since joining this forum. Bizarrely I had two on the same night last summer, one RASSC from an otherwise fine box and one montecristo 4, also from a box which every other cigar was fine from. Both absolutely too tight to bother with even after a skewer had been used. In the end that night I smoked a quintero panatela and it saved the day. Good old quintero!

I always cut and then try the draw before going out

I had 2 out of 5 Ramon Allones LE 2015 plugged, it is shame. I always bring more cigars with me, but still it was big disappointment when I want to smoke one at New Years Eve and it was plugged. Thank god I had some NC with me :-)

A man shouldn't have to put up with second best Bob, but I guess if the best is plugged, c'est la vie

I actually let it dry for 2 days, then take toothpick and make lots of holes and finally smoked it, tight but smokable. Just want to celebrate New Year with LE ... As I said - disappointment

On this forum TJ Coro, or one of his family, told me that some BOTL test the draw by sucking on the foot end of the cigar before cutting the cap. Having tried it a few times I think it certainly gives an indication of whether the draw is loose or tight.

I've done this too, whilst it gives an indication of wether the draw is loose or tight, it's not any good for telling if the cigar is tight but smokable or tight and unsmokable. Even cut I can't really tell til it's lit
