Being an island there is going to be a finite number of tobaccos grown there to blend so its not surprising that so many Cuban cigars taste alike. Non Cubans manufacturers will always have the upper hand when it comes to variety of choice.
If that's true all malts would be the same , being an island is not an issue
I think PeeJay means 'brands' in the Limitada programme. Many RA and JL do taste a bit samey IMO.
That's interesting. I don't get 'round to smoking many R or LEs tbh. Can you give some specific examples of this Arf? I might be tempted to track a few singles down to compare out of curiosity.

Any feedback on this one from a few weeks ago Tippexx?

Just my opinion, but to my mind all the new RA green bands are pretty much the same, there isn't that much between the Especial de Allones (FR) and the Belicosos (GER); the 2013 Petit Allones (AND) and Lusitanas (POR) could be the same smoke. In JL the Orbus (FR) and Selecion No 4 (AP) are pretty samey too .... but hey-ho, just my opinion.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

As I suspected, I've not had any of them. I suppose without dating every R or LE here, it's not inconceivable that very similar (if not the same) blends are used: given there's likely one or a couple of years between many releases.
Not inconceivable at all .... it's what the fields are for, and unless they expand the regions and put more fields under cultivation similarity is inevitable. At the end of the day cigars taste of just one thing .... tobacco .... anything else is just nuance within that basic taste.

Perhaps consumers have become to be too expectant of large variances in taste and flavour across the same Cuban brands. There's going to be basic flavour differences between regular production and LEs for instance, due to the ageing of the latter, but many REs might rely on their difference being length and shape. Sameness or nuance might come from length of leaf? Subtlety? Throw blend in the mix and there's obviously a few more permutations, but not many as you infer. I've got to say though, I'm merely a consumer and have little knowledge of the art of blending that Is done.
