Whats a homage when its made by a company who owns the other company and they both use a derivative of the same movement?

Hi, yes it is... in fact quite a few brands are in the same 'stable' together - on a watch forum I'm a member of there was a thread about this (an excerpt below out of interest - I take no credit for compiling this by the way!). Personally I think there are certain watch styles (the diver style above being the most notable) that have become so prevalent that to develop a variation on the theme wouldn't be classed as an 'homage' - it's when there are several features that v closely match another brand that it falls into homage territory (in my opinion). E.g. bezel style and font, hand shape, bracelet style etc.

A lot of brands are owned by 2 big companies, Swatch and Richemont:
