  • Cheaper doesn't always mean lesser

It's easy sometimes to assume that the bigger and more expensive a smoke is the better it is. Although looking at the Cuban Cigars Reviews and Ratings website you can be forgiven for believing it's true. But I do sometimes think BOTL approval decisions can be swayed by the cost of the cigar they are smoking.

Yet down in the Habanos basement there are lots of little gems and I don't necessarily mean Entractos, those are small cigars which gram for gram are almost as expensive as Cohiba. My first significant 'cheaper' discovery was the now sadly deleted Partagas Princess, a true Partagas despite the low price point and which with deletion more or less disappeared off the shelves overnight. I don't think the now legendary Astorias was an expensive cigar either.

But, confining myself to Partagas and to current cigars I'm going to leave you with a few cheaper suggestions that I believe you will enjoy and which won't leave you purse damaged (well, not too much!).

    1. Habaneros
    2. Aristocrats
    3. Super Partagas

I would add the little Chicos, but they aren't available in the UK. Get those on holiday if you can and squirrel away for the wet, cold Winter.

Over to you for your 'cheaper' but not 'lesser' treasures.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

The PL Montecarlos is my faveourite "cheap" stick. Definitely one to buy on holiday in my book.

ERdM Demi Tasse and H Upmann Epicure. $90 a box, ready to smoke in a year but best laid down for 3.

I would add the Partagas Mille Fleur, the Upmann Regalias, the Hoyo Palma Extra… These cigars will never provide the intoxication you get from a D4 or a Sir Winston, but the Q/P ratio is definitely there.

I agree with you---lots of good cigars out there at a cheap price. Price isn't always a deciding factor in a good cigar, nor is the size for that matter (as you've pointed out).
