  • Behike 52 or Maduro 5 Genios?

    Hi guys,
Me again; having got my selection of cigars to smoke over the next few months I thought I'd like to collect a few sticks as well and put them down for when my tastes have "evolved" enough for me to appreciate a Cohiba or similar. So I thought I'd ask your opinions again.
I want to get a few sticks (either the same stick or a couple of different varieties) and let them age for 10-18 months depending how far I feel I've progressed with identifying my favourite flavour profile. So I was either thinking the BHK 52 or the Maduro 5 Genios. Which one do you think will be a better smoke in roughly a years time? Is it worth buying two of the same stick or 5 different types? For instance, if the BHK is 2x as good as the Maduro then I'll just get 2x as many BHK's, haha
I'll just put whatever I get in my humi and let them rest for a while.
Now I don't want to go too overboard on price as I don't have ?100's to spend on a few sticks so I thought these more highly regarded but cheaper Cohibas will do the trick. If anyone wants to recommend anything else then feel free.
The flavours I currently like are creamy, buttery, chocolatey and coffee tastes, if that makes any difference
    Thanks for your time,
    Matt

    Matt,

I have to say I didn't have a great experience with the Genios but the all the BHK's I've smoked have been great straight out of the box. Take a look on the reviews page and you'll find some great info on both.

I think RASS develop great with minimal age…
Had a 2-year old one a month or more ago, and it was exceptionally good.
I totally agree with RDM RE: BHK. I love em straight out the box, in particular the 52 (I've tried all three BHK sizes).

Personally dont like the Maduro 5 and don't think they represent the Cohiba line very well but also dont think that the BHK is worth the price. I would go for an aged partagas serie du connoisseur no 3 (http://www.mysmokingshop.co.uk/index...man=39&sec=910) or a aged 898 https://www.cgarsltd.co.uk/aged-matu...7_154_470.html

Behike 52 or Maduro 5 Genios?

I've only ever had two Genios; one which was very good and the other which was poor and still to try the BHK's, in particular the 52 currently sitting in my humi. On the flavour side, I've smoked an ERDM Choix Supreme from 2000 and it was pure butter.

I love maduros and I've had a couple of Genios and Magicos and each time expected / wanted to be wowed but very sadly wasn't. The first Genios I had didn't have a lot of age on it, the others had more and were better so ageing them will improve them but having said that there are much, much better maduros out there especially given the price.

For example the Nica Rustica Brujito

Hoyo petit pyramide LE has a v sweet wrapper.

I personally wouldn't buy a batch of the same cigar, if you haven't tried it. I'd be inclined to buy one stick. If it's good then great - give it another trial. If it's not to your liking, spending that money again is your choice. I'd defo buy a BHK 52 and fire at will! I tried my first BHK (a 52) about 6+ months after getting in to cigars. Boy oh boy it was a cracker! That's how I got on to them. They have become my fav. Expensive yes, but hey, that's how it goes sometimes. I then looked back at what I had bought, tried and was disappointed with. I worked out how many BHKs that money would've bought me. I was a little peeved to say the least...

Behike 52 or Maduro 5 Genios?

Thanks guys, the majority of people seem to agree that the BHK 52 is a good smoke so I'll definitely be getting at least one of those. I agree with you Simon, after a few "proper" cigars I begin to see how much money I wasted on crap cigars just because I wanted a cheap smoke but I know feel that a better but less frequent smoke is the way forward for me
Anyone tried the Esplendidos? They seem to be held in high regard?
I think I'll ditch the Genios based on the very poor feedback on here, hopefully that's one I've narrowly avoided Cheers guys

Some good points there Simon and with regards to the Hoyo Short Pyramid LE; I love this cigar, it's become a recent favourite and I'll be picking up another couple of sticks at the end of this week to store away. [emoji2]

BHK52 for sure. Personally, I think the Maduro 5s are a "different" cigar altogether....not a big fan of them myself. Smoking a BHK52 from 2011 that's smoking really good

I know nothing about the cigar that PJ has mentioned. But, I do agree after reading your profile choice that you're in the wrong country, and that DR or Nic are more likely to give that sort of progression. The limiter being, how full or strong do you want to go? PeeJay and Sligub know there NC far better than I do.

Ross mentioned Partagas aged SdC3 and 898 as cigars for you to try, they are excellent choices both of them, and represent the best in Cuban profiles. I would suggest you try them too, they are complex, and get a good one, a total delight.

The Cohiba Behike 52 I've had so so and reasonably good smoking experiences with, burn on the other hand has been awful. In the Maduro series only the Secretos is any good IMHO, the other two are a disappointing average at best.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!
