  • Incrediably rare Cabanas Colosos Gordis 1940/50's

Finally sparked this very rare old cigar up yesterday. I bought these off an old member before Christmas. Just had my suspicions confirmed by Robert Fox, who never heard of these before & although he'd seen larger pre-rev cigars, they probably weren't commercially available, whereas these were & therefore -probably as the largest Pre-Rev vitola. Cabanas is one of the oldest brands starting in 1810 & produced the first known cigar box for London's 1851 Great Exhibition. An amazing find Simon, of which I'm not completely surprised as you pull out some absolute gems more often than not.

Apologies for not posting my notes sooner, Here's a photo by photo account, probably easier to open a second screen to match photos toline.
No7 About to spark up this 40/50's Canbanas Colosos Gordos, toasted the foot before punched the cap, little trick I tried from Brother Michel Van Windergarden.

No8. At this stage the coffee tasted better ( ? i
N09 Daughter dearest gave me this anthology, I told her the Pike by Ted Hughes was certian to be in it, think even she was slightly impressed I am familair with the poet lauretes work.
No10 Ahh, flav just coming through!

No11 So the smoke was coming out better at this end than into the mouth, it smelt fine but taste was difficult., Ash good & only dropped three times. Just asked the barman for a cocktail & stuck it up fully into the cigar, this helps the smokes to draw a bit better & the flav to improve.
No12 About halfway & certainly improving. Looking at this from every angle,it's certainly an experience to savour.
OK, we are on the last third & the best part of this cigar, not normally my fav third but the draw is good the flav at it' sp eak & I can now puff gently as to avoid over heating & make the moment last alittle longer. ? in Antwerp, Belgium.
Nearly at the end of interesting smoke, not the best Pre Rev I have had by a long shot but if I had a few more good examples to smoke, & got luckier with the draw next time, the whole experience might be a lot better.
No13 Time to put this down, turned bitter, I settled for 90points as I am a romantic; it was wonderful to sample this rare vitola & the flav when it came was distinctive & pleasant, a tragic shame about the state of the rest of the box.
