• Perfectos ... a difficult art

Seeing CJs new humi acquisition and remembering my recent experience with a Nestor Miranda got me thinking. I like perfectos, but they are difficult to roll and can be difficult to smoke. It's a bit of a trial sometimes to get them past the first hump. But when they smoke well they're worth it.

The NM this week might have been really great if it hadn't been so badly flawed construction wise. My favourite Perfectos is the Partagas Presidentes, I prefer it over all the Cuaba ... which are good to excellent in MO.

Over to you. Favourites and experiences ... good and bad.

The Feral Flying Pig springs to mind as a good example of a good one and so was the KFC version Tommy gave me.

Good thread.

Will get back on this one later as getting onto pond duties! But quickly, Presidentes are a cool cigar Arf for sure Linear IMHO, which some may find disappointing, but I like them and have a few left from '07.

There is some sort of throwback classyness to the perfecto and I wish Cuba would release more of them.

The Partagas Presidentes and my favorite Perfecto as well. Unfortunatly none of the Cuaba's that I have tried have never wowed me enough to purchase a box of them.

I love the way perfectos feel in the hand but have never smoked that many of them, I suppose the Cuaba Divinos is my favourite in my limited experience. I didn't care much for the AF Short Story I tried though

Did anyone manage to get hold of the Ramon Allones Swiss RE Perfecto? They looked like a really interesting smoke!

Anyone got a couple of these Partagas Presidentes they could trade or sell me to try?

No. But I know some men who did (and so do you ). The one that gets the raves though is the 2009 Asia Pacific RA Celestiales Finos, unfortunately I've not had one of those either.

Have you the UK Belicoso or our Canadian petit Unicos?
Practically the same cigar. Moreso the petit Unicos.

Your Belicoso is a bit stronger, though. So that's always a bonus. Hell, you're not missing too much dodging AP regionals (bar the SLR Pacifico).

I've had a Petit Unicos from a JDawg MAW round, and I've a couple of UK Petit Belicosos in the Humi and a French RE too I think. But they're all Petit Piramides Butters, not Perfectos?

No Perfectos thread is complete without mention of the RyJ Celestial Finos.
Cuaba Diademas and Divinos are exquisite for the price. OK when young.
Partagas Presidente (the only cigar of its vitola called the "Taco" size) is a great cigar. One of the milder Partagas that can be had young.
Many custom rolled Salamones are very, very good.

The aforementioned RA Swiss Perfectos is still way too young right now. Strong little things that will definitely need more age. I regret smoking mine as the last third wa4s veery bitter
Bolivar Armonias RE China. Not worth the price on its head. Came in a dish of 8 so it was tailored to those rich Chinese businessmen. Shame.
Bolivar Distinguido RE China. Bit better pricing. Got my hands on a few. Had one that was exquisite but could not justify the price on those again...

Juan Lopez Distinguido - cj121 can tell you about that cigar. Amirite, Chris?

Yet to try that Jeremy and sorry for my tardiness in general mate

Re the OP.
Cuaba Divinos: great when not tight. IME roughly about 10% have been.
Cuaba Traditionales: nice when not tight, with a great finish. 10%-ish again
Cuaba Generosos: nice when not tight. 10%-ish again.
Cuaba Diadema: Not smoked it yet, but I imagine it will great if not tight. I think there's a common characteristic giong on here:Biggrin:
Partagas Presidente: commented earlier in the thread.
Fuente Short Story: Nice enough for an NC (Don't do many NCs) Loose-ish draw.
Fuente Hemingway: As above. Loose-ish draw.
Cuban Crafters Liga Privada Baseball bat sized (not really) thing: nice cheap and cheeful, not offensive
90+ Seconds Perfecto: a little brash for the first third, but got better and better. No draw issues. Well possibly a bit loose.
Those Aurora Perfectos in the georgeous tubes: had one, can't remmeber which, but it was OK, no draw issues.
I'm going from memeory here, so it's failing! There are more, but I cannot remember at this minute.

The format is undoubtedly difficult to role as I'm sure our collective experiences tell tales about (and that may likely be with CC's not NCs). I imagine the NC manufacturers get round the draw issues by very slightly underfilling. Not to a point that you would complain about, but I think my experience is that the ones I have had, have been very slightly loose in the draw. Is that better than tight for me personally? Depends on my mood and willingness to work a cigar (ie poke it right up the jacksie, massage, roll et al) The NC/CC draw debate has been covered a zillion times

I'd be interested in a Davidoff Short Perfecto, but don't know if I can justify the price : (
