  • Rare and discontinued ? That you smoke.

That you smoke. This is the important bit. They must be cigars which you're prepared to light up once or twice a year, not just hoard.

Some of you may have noticed Simon and I commenting on the RyJ thread this morning and wondered what the hell are they going on about.

Discontinued doesn't mean BAD. Sadly and too frequently it is often the contrary. EMS examples of discontinued can still be picked up. Rare is when those examples become harder to find. Last week I posted a Punch Petit Punch in the 'What are you Smoking' Thread. That is an example of Discontinued passing into the realm of Rare.

I have 6 Punch Petit Punch left and am unlikely to smoke another this year. I will smoke some of my other discontinued simply because I like them and believe in an outside chance of getting more.

Trinidad Robusto T ? becoming rare
RyJ Petit Princess ? not yet rare
Punch Margaritas ? not yet rare
    Diplomaticos No 5 ? rare
    LGC MdO3 ? rare

Anyone else have their own discontinued smokin' faves?
If you want to, you can.

Both mine are Bolivar and still available if you're prepared to pay UK prices and they are the Gold Medal and the Lonsdale.

Probably the Trinidad Robusto Extra for me. I do have one from time to time. Have two boxes, but they seem to be getting quite thin on the ground now....

I only have a few of the following and I'm eking them out slowly:

            Upmann No1
            RG Lonsdale
            Bolivar Lonsdale
            Partagas lonsdale
            SLR Lonsdale
            SLR PC
            Diplomaticos 3
            Diplomaticos 4
            LGC Tainos

Shame that so many PCs, coronas and lonsdale are now discontinued. Love the size they as feel right in the hand. The lonsdale is tr?s elegant.....

Only four Churchills left now..... How sad

You need a trip to Geneva for the SLR Lonsdales

Almost all of my cigars are pedestrian ( one or no bands ) cigars ... Yet some seem to fall into the " discontinued " category ... Not intentional it's just that I like the size of cigars that are on the chopping block most often .

i do not limit myself to one per year for any of my open boxes ... I just smoke whatever catches my eye ... Typically any box of 25 lasts me about a year .

good thread similar to other mentioned
                  Trinidad Robusto T
                  Trinidad Robusto Extra
                  dip 4
dip 1 (not sure how hard to get hold of not looked)
                  party Charlotte's
some custom rolls thinking of Hamlet now that he has jumped ship

if i look through all humidors and lock and lock boxes i am sure there would be loads more

of course there are loads of RE's and LE's that not sure how hard they are to hold off

                    Some are impossible Pete.

Interestingly, this thread can be opened up a bit to include both SMOKE and HOARD

I've shown some of the discontinued I'm prepared to smoke as part of what is 'loosely' my rotation. To the list I'm happy to add PSdC3 and for the present Boli GM and QdO Panatelas.

But there are some cigars which I'm reluctant to smoke because a) They're great. b) I'm damn sure I won't be able to replace them, so they're in HOARD catagory.

                    For example.
                    Punch Ninfas — I've got 2
                    Monte Sublimes — 3
                    Dantes El Conde — 1
                    Partagas Charlottes — 6
                    Partagas Princess — 2
                    Partagas Coronas — 1
La Escepcion Selectos Finos — Half a box
                    Boli CE — 4
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

Rare and discontinued ? That you smoke.

Trinidad Short Robusto T EL 2010 - these I live to smoke.

LGC Med 2, 3 &4 are all smoked and loved by me and med 1 are on the way.

Partagas SDC No 1 only had one so far, got 22 left. Yum

I have dippy 1, 2, 3 & 5 but only enough of 3&5 to want to smoke them.

I have two boxes of dippy RE Espania on the way to smoke.

I have a box of Boli GM but as yet I've kept that intact, I do plan to smoke them.

I can't think of anything else I currently have more than one of and plan to smoke but I'm waiting for partagas 898 Unvarnished , LGC Tanios and Veguros no1 which are to be smokers. I don't have anything which is just for hoarding really but I have lots of unopened boxes which I'm struggling to bring myself to crack open.

Most of the discontinued cigars I have I would be happy to smoke - whenever choosing a cigar I just pick out whatever takes my fancy (although I am yet to get down the last one I will ever smoke for many so I'm not sure what will happen then

The ones I am particularly fond of are my Boli GMs, only a few of them left now, but that won't stop me smoking them if the mood takes me

This ^^. Especially the Lonsdales comment.
"When God made the cigar, he imagined a Lonsdale." Good stuff. Coronas are something of magic, too.

                              My list will compile:
Montecristo Reserva No. 4 -2 a year will last me 15 years. Shame... Ration them down to 1 a year - Rare treat)
Bolivar Simones RE Canada - probably my favourite regional from Bolivar, actually. 1 a year or so - gotta ration them, too.
Bolivar Libertadores RE Francia - Kinda... I use it as a longer Simones which I think have the same flavour profile
                              H. Upmann Lonsdale - something I'm going to make a treat out of, as well. Good stuff.
Partagas SdC No. 1 - A few from my birth year, a few from '92, a few from '99, a few from '06, and a few from '08. Good to ration these beauties.
                              H. Upmann Belvederes - The strongest H. Upmanns I've ever had. And they're from 1988! Who'dda thunk it. Tastes like a strong Belgian hot chocolate.

These are all my standard rare treat days that I look forward to in the year. Ones for especially nice days or fulfilled accomplishments.
