  • Where am I smoking today? (2)

I am at the Casa Habanos in Soho. Very nice little smoking room with excellent ventilation and friendly service.

I went for my second Juan Lopez No. 2

Tried it the first time over a week ago and will now order a 50 cabinet from 2010. Can't wait...! Lovely leather notes with cream and a hint of spice.

Review will follow when the weather improves and my box arrived.

This was supposed to go to 'what are you smoking today '. Can someone move it please?

Will do later unless someone else gets to it.

Been quite curious about Juan Lopez No. 2, as a connoisseur friend has recommended it to me as his favorite robusto. Could you possibly give a few more detailed impressions on it? How does it compare to the D4 and RASS?

When I last had one I noted it as smooth, light and nutty, an ideal morning cigar

I only had one RASS in my life so far and I would say that it has a lot more woody notes and a bit more edge than the Juan Lopez. The D4 is on the other side of the spectrum. I would say the JL is right in the middle of the two of them.

Flavours are strong and mainly Wood, Leather and Cream. Even the younger ones I tried (2013 and 2014) are mild and full bodied. Nicotine wise it's not very strong.

They develop a lot of smoke and are somewhat 'very cuban'.

I think I really like that I basically couldn't find any flavour in them that I didn't like. Will do a more detailed review once my aged box arrives. Looking forward to see how they compare to the fresh ones. Given that they are a bit cheaper than the big cuban brands, I think these are a must have in the humidor to have on a more regular basis.

I tried the D4 a little while ago, and I really wasn't too impressed, specially considering how much praise it gets. It seems I may enjoy the JL or the RASS more then then the D4.

                Glad it's not just me.

Me too. Given how much praise they get, and that I'm still a bit new to cigars, I thought the problem might actually be mine. Same with the H. Upmann Magnum 50 - I've read more then a few negative reviews about it, and thus far it remains my favorite smoke. Granted, there's still a lot for me to try, but I've actually smoked a few dozen different sticks, and the Magnum 50 remains my favorite to date.

I think you will like the Juan Lopez. To be honest, I can't see anybody who likes Cubans in general to dislike the Juan Lopez. It's also very good value. Let us know what you think once you tried.

Those two I sent down recently have more oomph John. Not excessively so, but for me bang on with what a JL2 is about. I hope you enjoy them as much as have been.
