  • Cigars in Cuba - box sizes

    Hi gents,

As I will be traveling to Cuba in about a month, and seeing as I've never been there before, I was wondering which box sizes are generally available there.

There are some cigars I'd like to buy a 25 box of, but for others a box of 10 would probably be enough. Also, smaller boxes of 3 or 5, or even singles, are easily available? I'm mainly curious regarding singles or small boxes that you can't buy here, like the Cohiba BHK or LE sticks.

    Thanks in advance.
    David

I use this site as a point of reference. It is kept up to date to, which is quite handy!

Thanks for the link, Wayne, much appreciated. Since it seems pretty much all cigars have a single price, should I assume most (if not all) cigars in Cuba can be bought by the unit?

I think it's the same as anywhere. When we went last year, you could buy singles & boxes etc

Oh I see... in that case the problem might be with Portugal. Here it's not allowed to remove a cigar from a box and sell it, the only singles that can be sold have to be in some sort of tube, and quite a lot of cigars aren't available in these tubes, so the alternative is usually to buy packs of 3 or 5, when available. Some cigars, like the Bolivar Belicosos, Cohiba Esplendidos or any VR for that matter, are only available here in boxes of 25.

That's a bit naughty really, I thought that all retailers just sold the cigars out of the box as singles, or if preferred, you could just buy a complete box.
Obviously, some brands are sold as 3 & 5 packs too

That's completely mad - there must be a lot of box splits going on in Portugal!

The more I think about it the madder that sounds monk , but you can buy singles just only in tubes , what if someone wanted a RASS as a one off for a special occasion after dinner he'd surely not have to buy a whole box , as major clipton says madness MADNESS

I find that bizarre....I can't afford boxes myself but if I could I would only splash on a box if I had tried a few of a certain cigar and really enjoyed them. In this way you are pretty much buying boxes blind.

Cuba - where? I'll send you to some good LCdHs

Get cigars you normally won't get. Boxes of ELs, LCdH cigars, and most importantly... The H. Upmann Reserva!!!!!! Don't get any regular productions except for La Gloria Cubana which you can't buy in the UK. Trust me
Always buy more than you can. If you realise you've spent a bit too much than planned, remember you have friends in the UK (and Canada) to split the box

Yes and no. If they have the box open, go ahead. Many times, they simply won't open the box for "prospective buyers"

Guys, I couldn't agree more, specially since I'm the one affected by it, but it's simply the way it is around here, unfortunately. There are 2 main stores here in Portugal, Cigarword and Puros (both .pt), take a look for yourselves.
