Cgars Ltd have the new offerings from Partagas and Trinidad which look like nice short smokes, they may be worth a try.

Looking for advice on where to start.
Buy a sampler pack, most firms like JJ Fox and Cgars do a 'medium flavour cuban sampler' of 5 cigars for under ?50.
Some suggestions for your list, for a light through to medium palette.
H.Upmann (anything from their range.) Perhaps start with the half corona.
Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto, very nice when your starting out.
Punch Coronation
Dont be afraid to experiment, try new world cigars, Oliva range are pretty good. Try the Oliva G Belicosso Maduro for a taste of the sweet and dark 'Maduro' wrapper.

Joss is right with the Oliva G Belicosso Maduro, don't make the mistake I did early on in thinking dark means strong. True Maduro are sweet and refined. Some dark cigars are dyed though and can be powerhouses.
If I were starting from scratch I would buy:
1 Arturo Fuente Short Story
1 Oliva G Belicosso Maduro
1 Hoyo de Monterrey Coronation or petit Robusto
1 Cohiba Exquisitos or Coronas Especiales (to try Cohiba and skinny smokes in one)
1 Hoyo de Monterrey short Piramide as a flavoursome but light lager cigar.
Whatever you decide, have fun and remember that just because everyone else seems to like something it doesn't mean you will. Try to select different brands and vitolas rather than just getting petit Robustos from all the main brands. You might not like petit Robustos.
