  • Cohiba

Ive tried some of their popular cigars eg
    siglo,s , bhk , esplendido etc
generally they havent been outstanding imo , admittedly they were singles and i didnt know the box codes ( newbie mistake ) and possibly the problem .
there seems a lot of love on here for the bhk and siglo v1 to name just two .....
is it an age thing ?
or is it my palate , i tend to like the earthy leather of Partagas d4,s and Bolivar bf
i feel like im missing out on something

my top 3 cohibas to date would be

    corona especiale
    robusto
    siglo v

what would other members top 3 be ?

Only ever had two. A SIG 6 and a SIG 4.
    Disliked both.
I have an aged coro in the humi. If I don't like that, I'll probably avoid cohiba for the future.

      Cohiba

I don't think you are missing anything Wolfie. Cohiba have a more subtle profile as do HdM and RyJ. I like both the full flavour and the more subtle smokes but that wasn't always the case, I started on D4's and Cuaba Divinos which both pack a punch, it was only after being given some aged Cohiba with age that I realised that I really enjoyed the more subtle smokes and realised that some of them pack just as much flavour but in a different way. I enjoy nothing as much as a fine Siglo VI with age in its last third, full of flavour and finesse. I have a pal that never made that connection and loves anything with lots of flavour. I think you would be mad to try to train yourself to like something that costs so much, if it's not your bag that's fine IMO. I would offer to send you one but unfortunately my stock has taken a battering lately. I'll keep you in mind for when I get back on my feet.

i have had a few sigloII a IV and a VI which were sophisticated and tasty. Are they worth the premium price is a good question. Still have a BHK52,54&56 in the humi to try one day but there are so many great smokes to enjoy i'm in no rush.

Not a proper answer but my 2p worth LOLs

I'm with Tommy on this one, yes they're good but whether they're worth the premium price is another question. Having said that I still love a Lanceros

Young Cohiba I find to be 'fuggy' and confused. Behike I've yet to discover what the fuss is about, I've only smoked 52s, but to me they're mild, monotonous and surprisingly nondescript. Cohiba do however massively improve with age (5-6 years min.). I've not smoked 'aged' versions of all the 2 ranges and have yet to smoke an Esplendidos of any age, but for me the standouts are the Coronas Especiales and Lanceros from the Classic range and the Siglo IV.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

I must buy some IV Tippy, I'm not sure if what I smoked last week was one but it was a wonderful smoke. Having said that I followed it with a PL Montecarlos which is a lot cheaper and I enjoyed just as much or more. The question if price is interesting, I only buy them when travelling as UK prices are stupid. I enjoy some other cheaper cigars more than some Cohiba but I like to smoke both.

Funny you should say that Tom because I splashed out on a Boli Lonsdale at JJs on Monday which I really enjoyed but found I preferred the flavour of the Petit Julieta with which I followed it. It did make me wonder if my palate was affected by the first cigar.

I would say if we enjoy the brand then it's worth the premium price.

I quite agree, though this is still a duty free allowance brand for me much like cognac.

I suppose it's all a question of what your budget is and how you want to apportion it.
For me, I score cigars out of ten, and then use a combination of the score and cost per minute smoked to create a relative value score.
My memory generally sucks, so I can then use this to help inform future purchases.
God of Fire is an expensive stick (although not compared to Cohibas), but scored very well on relative score.
So if you have the money and really like them I think it's an excellent idea to keep some - however, if they're not high scoring for you then funds can be better directed elsewhere, for more bang for your buck

Like your thinking Groundhog. A bit like scoring the relative merits of a Curry Take-away on the amount of loo time after, plus something factored in for relief and satisfaction.

Behikes I have to admit are very subdued in flavour. But the creaminess, texture, after taste, overall experience in my opinion is not a displeasing one. I find them very mellow and best paired to a sweet drink. This combo works exceptionally well for me. I am saying it's all down to personal palette.
