Tested the supply chain with a box of Monte No 4s on the basis I wouldn't be quite so sad if they got lost. I like them but not as much as some other cigars I've tried. They arrived but I'm glad I did the test because ParcelForce couldn't find the house. Anyway, I digress. The box is dated Jul 14, so very new. I know I've read bits of threads with advice on how long to leave cigars to rest, but can't find them now I want them. I'm not planning on ageing them, but would like to know if there is an appropriate time I should leave them before they'll be ready to smoke.

At 3 months old I would suggest they may be a bit green to consume just yet I would suggest try one see how it is they can be good very young then try them again every month if you get any ammonia then leave for a few months and then go back to them again

2-3 years for Monte 4s to balance out. I would expect them to taste pretty nasty at 3 months and fresh off the boat.

Regardless of age, for reasons unknown I find nearly all sticks need 2 weeks to 2 months rest after travel. They can be horrible if 'travel sick'.

You've possibly smoked one a little too early, cigars need at least a week to 'settle in' after transit. 2014 Monte 4 are reported as being very good, so give them a month or two and hopefully you'll then enjoy them for what they can really be.

Mature Puro!

As a rule of thumb, one year is the minimum age for puros stored in don TJ's massive unit at la casa de Coro, but others around these parts claim recent production puros are enjoyable at a younger age.

Many thanks for the advice. Not had one out of this box - my bad English. I knew I had to leave them to rest - just not how long.

Bearing in mind I'm still a novice, I did think I might try one as an education - so I experience them 'green', then after they've rested and then at regular intervals. Is that a bit of a waste of time?
