  • Boli Coronas Extra Cab x50 from '70's.

SAM_3998.jpgSo after buying this cab at Auction last Nov, SAM_3999.jpgI finally found a good enough event to celibrate to try the first one. Having attended the wedding of our best friends youngest daughter last week, I had invited our friends over this evening to catch up watch the video clips that I took. Also to have a decent smoke as they didn't get the chance last weekend.

Having had a great cheese & wine evening, we went downstairs to the garage as it was raining & we couldn't use the patio. Having lit the candles & opened the cab, SAM_4001.jpgPaul & I punched a stick each & Ingrid chose a Cohiba Panatela. On lighting & taking a couple of puffs, the Boli flav came storming into my mouth.

I was more than a little anxious about trying my first stick from this cab as I had paid dble the estimate & it was a genuine gamble that they would not just be smokable but an excellent smoke to justify my leap of faith. If they were average I could have sold a few off but how many would want to pay that much for an avge stick?

Accompanying the Boli with a rather lightweight St Emillion, the smoke poured out, if I had my blanket, I could have sent this message with the signals. The earthy flav was heavy, infact the Boli flav was very powerful the whole smoke through. IMG_0059.jpgThis cigar was amazing that after 35-40yrs the flav hadn't muted at all, I have had plently of '98s & newer that didn't hold a candle to this one. Which goes some way to the theory that the Boli flav has been diluted over the yrs.

This cigar was a perfect after dinner smoke, if you don't have time for a longer smoke like the CG. I would have given it 100 pts but so soon after my first 100 pt cigar, it might seem too much so I'll settle for 99pts. The only thing I could think of knocking it down for is that it isn't as attractive as some other Cubans but hey apperances can be deceptive; personally there's nothing more that I am looking for when I take a Havana from the humi than this cigar delivered.IMG_0064.jpg

Oh my god. that would've been something really exquisite!!

vintage Bolivars have been one of the best feelings in the world. the mellowness of the strength which releases Bolivar flavours that you really can't detect new because it's hidden by a wall of "ass-kickery". i can't believe you actually have an entire 50 cab! that's outstanding!!

That sounded awesome, I still remember my 90's Boli CE, I've only ever tried one and it was glorious.

            Great pics too Simon

I remember you buying these; I find there's always a higher risk of disappointment when you pay a lot for a stick so I'm glad it worked out so well

You must've been really relieved when it smoked well. I don't know what you paid for that cab but I imagine on purchase you stood in front of the seller, each cutting your palms with a knife before grasping hands tightly and staring into the others steely eyes!

Wow what a special evening and 25 more chances to enjoy these with a pal! Or more if alone I'm sure you paid dearly for them but a result like this makes it all so worthwhile. Is this an ex production cigar? After this is went online to track it down and the Coronas Gigantes and junior are all I see. Anyway I'm very happy for you, what a lovely addition to the cave.
