So I received an email last week giving details of the cigar roller Lazaro Collazo being around for the summer and that he was appearing at the Royal Windsor Horse Show this weekend. Well, by coincidence my company does the PR for the show, so it would've been a shame not to have paid him a visit, wouldn't it?!
The stand at the show is being run by cigar-club.com, and they are selling a few of the most popular brands, but the real draw is Lazaro and I watched him roll a few Robusto cigars and could not resist buying a couple of them. ?15 each but how can you resist smoking something made in front of you for heavens sake!
Never had a cigar so fresh, quite soft and the guys in the stand said that I should keep it going as the moistness would mean it kept going out. Well, it actually kept going OK, a little harsh at the start but after the first quarter inch it was wonderful. Very easy draw and totally lovely. Lazaro has brought all the leaves with him from Cuba to roll the cigars and had to pay tax based on the weight, he will get a tax refund for anything he takes back with him. Love the tax system over here.
If you get the chance this summer, buy one of his cigars - I'm loving this one and the fact he made it in front of me, and just for me, makes it taste even better!
