I have quite a bit but noting in my collection is safe from burning up. If I would pick I would say Caney Banquet Fino from '74-'76 these are Rare and only know of 2 people online or otherwise that have them.

Couple of honorable mentions would be
        R.A 898's
        Andrew willson.Co Bachlor

Acquire of course, to squire a stick would be boring as hell, they don't get into fights or jousting matches very often.

shame, that. those boxes would've really helped.
when you get a few more 'rep' around here, i'd be quite interested in sending you a little Cuban sampler for 1 or 2 of those Robbies if you don't mind.
naturally, i'd only be able to tell you if they're NOT 98s+. most cohibas made between 98 and 02 are... well... less than admirable. naturally, i said MOST so they still could be good. it's always so damn hard to tell.

Canada, lovely. Never been but I'd love to one day.
I'd be happy to have a trade with you, apart from anything else I'd like to get the opinion of someone who knows their business. I have smoked one but I love dark leathery oily maduro's so I don't have much experience of Cubans other than Divinos and Partigas D's.

Just a note on "the bad years." now my experience in limited compared to many on here, but I have now smoked a few 98 & 99 cigars and they have for the most been some of the best cigars I have smoked!

I would have to agree, not every single cigar in those year are bad, I too have had some amazing stick in those years.. I have also have just as many bad ones. I always have a little reserve with when/if I grab sticks of them years.

Will have to agree with you there. But keep in mind the reason why they were 'bad': overproduction due to the cigar boom.
Therefore, the biggest hit were Cohiba, Montecristo , and RyJ. The money bringers. Cohiba was hit extremely badly, actually.

However, fortunately for other brands, they didn't suffer as much. In fact, one of the only ways to get the coveted LGC1s, RA898s, Punch SSs , etc is to get them in the years 98-02.
And there's no way in hell any of those sticks will be bad to the burn.

My understanding of the problems in the bad years was not restricted too the top marcas was more to do with inexperienced rollers and a lack of the proper tobacco for the blends which affected all marcas and really started in 99. The reason you can still find discontinued cigars from these years is you really need to have a good vendor that will check the cab and guarantee them for being a box of tent plugs, which a lot are not prepared to do as they know in time they will find a sucker willing to buy them even if they are plugged. My opinion on why prior years are so hard to find is they were all bought up over the bad 3 year period as the current stuff at the time was so problematic.
