Saving, then will add photos/
So time to catch up my special week since leaving the rig. I have been very busy & haven't had time to list them as I went along so as they were rather special & include some gifts that I must mention, here's the round up:
Wed 12th Having hit the beach after a really busy 3/52 trip, I was really looking fwd to some chill time & a smoke or two. Had to pop into my company's new office in Dyce & met my new line manager. That went rather well but I was concious that the warm sunlight hrs were drifting away forever & I was desperate to get into town. After lunch I asked for a taxi & was in town to make my appt at Spec Savers. Good news was that I don't need to buy a new pair of specs so a few quid saved there. Coming back out onto Union St, I just happened to notice that a Halifax had opened up two doors up. So nipped in, did my banking & then practically ran up the street (draging two bags & a sack of newspapers) so it was 16:20 by the time I sat down on the terrace, coffee & bag of cigars in hand. This terrace has permanant sides but the roof was open & smoking allowed, so it kept the breeze out.
I chose a Punch Margarita '02 from Tippex as my starter.SAM_4353.jpg I was torn as I like to keep this for Christmas at our Belgium friends, to smoke inbetween courses. But it was a NSS gift & I know what it's like waiting to hear how they smoked & I really fancied a starter.SAM_4355.jpg I have had a few of these over the yrs & never had a bad one (& you can't say thatSAM_4377.jpg about many Cuban lines), this was no exception & after 3/52 of no smoking it was a great start, perfect matched with the coffee. 86pts.
I followed up after a very short pauze with a RA Superiors 2010 from gifted by Sludgie. SAM_4360.jpgThis was my first & I had heard very good things about this vitola & I was hoping it would live up to the hype. I love the RA flav profile, the cigar sits perfectly in the hand, good all around size. The cut & draw were fine. The smoke was young & I predict this really is a classic of the future & another 10yrs & these will becoming in to it's own. I had to leave the terrace, when they brought te covers over, to stand just outside. The temp was dropping fast & I was glad I was finished within a few minutes. I had called a mate on he off chance & he arrived with another mate I hadn't seen for yrs. We are all offshore rig pigs & pike fisherman. We retired to the Old School house for dinner & to drink more than our wkly allowance of units & tell tall tales.
Caught the night train down to the Smoke & was at my sister's by 10:00, in time to get to Mother's & take her to her GP for her first appt post having a T.I.A. (Mini Stroke). I had heard on the rig that she had been admitted to the Stroke ward after losing the sight in her left eye for several hrs. She had never had one before & was suitably concerned. She was discharged after 24hrs but can't drive for a month. The GP was happy enough & all the tests had been negative.
Back at her house after lunch, managed a PL Asia Pacific '10 from Tippex. SAM_4367.jpgThis was very similar to the German RE Lonsdale '06 & just as good. 86 pts.
Fri mid afternoon & my daughter had joined us, up from Uni. I slipped away to give them some time together & had a the H.Upmanns Amromaticos #1 '70's. 87pts.
Sun 16th Out for a walk in the sunshine with my wife & stopped for coffee & a Palm at the Riverenhoff. I had a ERDM Panatelas Largos '70's SAM_4376.jpg(from my own collection), pure finesse as always. 89pts.
Wed 19th ERDM DT '05, visiting a friend in a nursing home.SAM_4385.jpg
Thurs 20th H.Upmann Perla Pre-Rev could be very old but called it 55yrs, 100pts. Cohiba Millenium 2000, 89Pts ( my error yesterday, just checked diary)
Totals: 8 days, 8 cigars, approx 180yrs of aging, could be more. Thanks to Tippex, Sludgie & of course Ade for a real red letter week indeed.
