  • Too good to be true?

    Gentlemen,
I subscribe to the adage that if it's too good to be true it probably is but on this one I need some help as I'm not as experience as most of you boys.
These boxes have become available through a guy who is selling a rather expensive humidor, my friend is interested in the humi but has asked me if I would be interested in the contents as he can't afford. Guy says he bought them from various airports years ago when he travelled with work and is no longer interested in them and wants rid, said he paid around ?260 a box at the time. Do you think they are genuine?

    Any help appreciated guys.

I should have said it's 3 boxes of Monte 2's and a box of HDM double coronas all from between 01-04

Sorry can't help On legitimacy though at least the story is plausible and they look good! Is the price worth a slight risk?

Price wise we are still talking but looks like he will do the 4 boxes for ?500. A lot for me so I wouldn't keep them all but I figure if they are real I wouldn't have any hassle splitting them up a bit and keeping some myself.

Unfortunately, I won't see that till I get there to buy them tonight.

By the way guys, I'm not gonna hold anyone to their views, it's really difficult on pics I know I'm just looking to see if anyone saw anything that would raise alarm bells!

Also not massively experienced but they look pretty good to me, plus with over 10 years of age it's very tempting. I'd try to negotiate him down on the price.

Can you ask the seller to send you the codes or check the quick on your phone when you get there?

At that price its got to be worth looking into as much as you can - am I right in saying there at three boxes of 25 Monte 2s there? It would set you back more than ?400 just for one box of those normally and these seem to be at least 10 years old

Yeah there are 3x 25's of the montes and there are 20 of the HDM double corona too. Gonna go pick up later tonight.

I'd always side with caution. Before buying get the codes from the seal and check them for legitimacy.

Okay, didn't realise they were 25 boxes (thought they were 10s). In which case at that price and with that much age, assuming it all checks out, I'd jump on it!

not 100% sure but I do not think the bar codes will work on the web site check as they are quite old,it is hard to tell but with pictures but they do look good

No bar codes on those, too old.

At a glance they look fine to me but would need detailed pics of each box to know more.

I suspect your biggest risk is condition not authenticity.

Worth considering that '99-'01 were very hit and miss years and do not command the same price as other similar years.

The last issue is aroma. If you get your nose in and they smell good (musty tobacco) then this is good. If they smell of nothing then this is not so good.

Pobably the most important thig is can you smoke one first, if it great you have your answer. ?500 is still a lot of money for potentially flat/expired/badly stored sticks.

I think they look genuine. As Monk says condition is the key .... but, as the bloke is also selling a humidor it suggests he knew what he was doing and how to store his cigars.
