No mate it's the other side of 2/3 of an inch. In fractions it's well, a 53/64th of an inch or 21mm in euro money.

I don't really get RG, seems a stupid system. Why not just use mm like length? or 0."?

that's sort of even worse as it follows a duodecimal system. hard to put them as 0.xxx as they're under decimals.
that's the whole reason why we started using 1/3 or 3/16 inches as fractions can have any denominator where as decimals have to be... well: deci! i guess that's why the ring gauge system came in place in the imperial system after all.....

Ring gauge was a standard for pipes/wire/tubing for a long time so I always figured it just evolved from that and like a lot of things it stuck.

Lol, I work with Pipes and Tubing all day every day and I have never used RG. Some of the old timers still use inches which gets me thinking.

Well I never even thought to look up RG until now, I never realised it was just 64ths of an inch. Makes more sense knowing that.

Like that at our place, If we didn't do subby work for the yanks at work I wouldn't have much need for imperial measurements, it's a dying scale haha

Don't they measure ring gauges at the widest point of the cigar? That's how I thought they work anyway

                      That's what she said!

But no seriously. A 64 ring gauge is 1 inch. So 1/3 inch ring would be something along the lines of 21.33333333 ring gauge. Being that 64 is not divisible by 3 you don't come out even.
