  • How long?

My son brought me a Bolivar Presidente Exclusivo Suiza from Zurich yesterday. I see this is a 2013 release and I have found Bolivars to be a bit harsh for me. How long should I leave it to mature to really appreciate it?

Let it rest in your humi for a week or so and burn that beautiful stick at the first given oppurtunity! Got a pic?

Not at work Joe, I'll post one later. Does it not need a few years to soften its profile?

You don't know if the Presidente RE is harsh because you haven't smoked one, but in saying that neither have I. When you see Monk or others posting about aging, the timescale isn't weeks or months, they mean years, and on a Bolivar production smoke a minimum 3 to 5 to soften them down and bring out the flavours.

RE can be different, and it isn't unknown for some to peak and die quite quickly. In a case where you only have the one I think it best you prepare yourself for a hard ride (which may not happen) and just go ahead and smoke it.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

          Sounds like good advice.

I wondered who would be first! Having not enjoyed this marque in the past I really want to try it at its best. He also brought a Vegas Robaina Petit Unicos Suiza from 2012.

My Boli Petit Belicosos LE were unsmokeable when I first got a box, slowly tried them over the years and only now are they starting to come good, but would still benefit form a few more years tbh.

Most other Bolivar I've tried have not been quite so unforgiving young.

That's cool...I was wondering if he picked anything up for you.
I enjoyed the vegas robaina familiares that I had.

This or 5 years to be safe. As Arf said it is a bit of a crap shoot when one has only one.

I'm getting a box of these in. Chose em over the VRS
I'll smoke one with a petit corona for you so you can know

But that'll have to wait until the mercury turns liquid again
