The best of the size I have tried in order: Dunhill Atado (legendary representation of this vitola), ERDM Elegantes (finishing a box from 1990); La Gloria Cubana MDO No. 3 (the most consistent panatelas largas), ERDM Panatelas Largas (again, 1990 was a fantastic year for these as well); RG Slenderellas (Not for me, too bland).
Have tried Don Candido No. 508 and Romeo Shakespeares. Not enough sample size to comment. Still searching for the elusive Montecristo No. 7.

Hi ewipper, very interesting post. I meant to mention the R&J Shakespeares, a perfect name for the long thin cigar, with the bard link. I thought the Monte No7 was discontinued in the 70's but offically '98 but they must have been out of production for a while before that official discontinuation. Shakespeares in the '80's but I never saw oneo fthoise either.
So on another note, as someone who has smoked the Elegentes & Panatelas Largos, is there really a noticable difference in blend/ flav? If so which do you favour?Simon Bolivar: Liberator of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru & Venezuela.

Lovely write up Simon, now to track down some sun and a Hoyo du Gourmet!
When I started smoking cigars I was very much of the opinion, that bigger was better, especially regarding the ring gage, definitely shifted away from this mentality but I feel it may be the same for many of the new comers to the scene thanks to the trends that are being pushed.

Agree with you there Joey, Habanos seem to think bigger is better too & there'll always be a palce for a DC or Robusto EX in my Humi but one of the things I enjoy most abou the wonderful wolrd of Havanas, is the sheer variety of sizes & flav's & I revell in itSimon Bolivar: Liberator of Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru & Venezuela.

I grabbed a box of early 80's ERDM PL's and have smoked through at least half the box, wish they still made these. I would take the risks any day for Skinnies the reward is ten fold.
