  • Half-Century Speciallly Selected?

With just a couple of weeks 'til I celebrate my glorious half-century on planet earth , thought I'd better consider something a little extra special to celebrate the day.

So question is; do I go for one of the following that have been nicely resting and ageing in the humi, or can anyone suggest something that little bit extra special (Gran Reserva's/LE's). Simon Bolivar listed some great celebratory cigars recently, but cant relocate the thread just now.

Any thoughts welcome Ladies & Gentleman

    Montecristo Sublime LE 2008
    Cohiba Piramide LE 2006
    Bolivar Gran Belicoso
    Hoyo Double Corona
    Behike 54
    Cohiba Genios 2007

Had a Bolivar Petit Belicosos LE 2009 for my birthday the other day, that was pretty good!

Depends what you want to spend, there's a few Reserva's floating around - Monte No 2 and R&J Churchill 2008 at ?60 and ?40 respectively but whether they're worth that much I don't know. There's also the Partagas Lusitania for ?60 which is pretty special if you go by some of the early reviews...

I'd get hold of a BHK 52 or something like that if I were you, they're usually pretty spot on!

The BHK 54 I had was excellent.... But I am led to believe the Partagas Lusitania is fantastic.

Hi Dave, joining the 50+ club is something special (know too many who didn't make it) so should be celibrated with something special, if you can PM then send me one, if not ask Deano to arrange it for you, as you have enough posts.

Seen virtually consistent complimentary reviews of these Sean: the Epicure De Luxe (LCdH) is smoking very nicely too. Very tempted to pull the trigger on a Cabinet of the Grand Epi at some point before they disappear

BHK 54's a big favourite! Must admit the Lusi Gran Reserva looks mighty tempting though; as Simon B says, making it this far deserves something a little special so maybe GR's are the way to go...

the monte GR was a disappointment. at cuban prices, they're still a no-no. the cohiba GR was leagues above a normal 1-2YO Siglo VI but still falling short of a monte 4 RR. and on price point, the monte4 RR would be my smoke for any special occasion. if cohiba and montecristo can fall flat like that, i'd be led to believe that party GR won't be as good considering the price point either.
but heyy, that's just me and my palate. you will most likely have a better one. besides, i've a few in my humidor and will need to revisit sometime in the summer

IF you can find it, the Partagas 20th Anniversario Sublimes or Robusto would be my choice. that was probably the best cigar from this century (and decade!) that i've had!!
or, if you can find one of those, try hunting these golden geese down:

                        Dippy 4
                        Punch SS no.2
                        RA 898
                        Dante Edmundo 54 or 56

What is a RR? And there isn't a Dante 56 that I'm aware of.

Monte RR still available for around ?38; your comments seem to justify the hefty price-tag for a petit corona!

But RA 898; cracking smokes if you can still find 'em, and still kicking myself for not buying a cab a few years back for ?350; think the last 898's auctioned went for around ?850

just reserva. that's how the mates down here shorten it.
and you're right. just checked. that rediculously long one is called a 54. i just assumed it was a 56 because it is huge!!

and don't worry Dave! i've had my fair share of cigars that have slipped through my hands.....
