    hey all,
was in miss moran's, belfast's (actually, northern ireland's) only 'habanos specialist' (i use that term lightly), having a nosey to see what i could pick up as single, xmas smokes!! they have the new monte petite no.2 and double edmundo on sale as singles!! they seemed a bit pricey...... the petite no.2 was ?18, ?2 cheaper than a regular monte no.2, the double edmundo was ?22!! any of you guys here tried these yet....... and are they worth the money? i don't understand why the petite no.2 is so expensive.... i mean, it's a quid cheaper than a trinidad fundadores!!! it's not a question of size, more of expense!!

also, they had some arturo fuente opus x's for sale, robusto size i think, ?22!! are they any good? i never bother with NC's....

looking forward to reading the responses........

The petite no 2 seems very popular with forum members, I have one on hold in my humidor but it was only ?14.99 from our sponsors. Would definitely like to try the Opus X.

      Here's a description of the Opus X

'This legendary cigar is among the world's most sought-after rarities and rarely find their way to Europe.

All formats of this line are made from 100% Dominican tobaccos . The Opus X was the first Puro outside Cubas , ie rolled tobaccos exclusively with a country. But it is not only Puros , but all tobaccos are even only on a single plantation , Chateau de la Fuente , grown and harvested.

All cigars are outfitted with superior curl , perfect draw resistance , flawless burn and a beautiful ash course . They are characterized by a spicy , strong flavor and delight you with unique , oily- complex of flavors , which are highly appreciated by numerous Connoisseuren around the world . In 2006, the Opus X was awarded by the magazine Cigar Aficionado due to their uniqueness as "Best Cigar of the Year " .'

?22 is a fair price for one of these Robustos and yes I cut and pasted this if you couldn't guess!

Shame you cut & pasted PeeJay, as going to ask you what a superior curl is all about??? I now 'worth' is completly subjective but I sincerley doubt these are worth ?22 of my money, I have had an Opus X gifted to me before but Cohiba Robustos are only ?20 from our sponsers & I would put that ahead of the Opus I had.

I agree with your comment on 'worth' but the price in NI is comparable with the EU price hence use of the word 'fair'

Mate of mine picked up 2 fifties of Opus Xs whilst in a small town shop in america. both full because the owner couldn't get rid of em.

he now has a full 75 and another one with only 12 left and trying to sell them asap. no one will take em......

also, i'd get the fundadores. they're trinidad AND probably the best regular production trinidad. that will beat any regular production montecristo in my books.

ps: welcome back alex! your enthusiasm was greatly missed

Sell them as singles on here, I'm sure we'd all try one except Simon perhaps.

I haven't had the chance to try the petit no2 yet but for the sake of 2 quid I think I would have the regular one for an Xmas smoke. Saying that though the petit Edmundo is much better than the regular one IMHO

People's thoughts on the Montecristo range?

Having recently smoked a #2, I have found a stick I absolutely adore. Unfortunately the Mrs wouldn't thank me for spending the amount it would require to smoke these on a regular basis, so I would like to know what are people's thoughts on the others in the range.

At there any that give a portion of the enjoyment of the #2 at a portion of the price? Which is generally considered best bang for buck? Are there any to avoid? Am I kidding myself that I can replicate the experience on the cheap and so should just buy a Box of #2's?

Sorry for all the questions, but I can hear a box begging to be bought.

IMO the Petit Edmundo's are a great smoke and are a fair bit cheaper than no2's, they are the same gauge I think too but are a fair bit shorter. No4's are also lovely but are a thinner cigar so depends on personal preference on size, but looking at bang for your book I'd have to say no5's are my favourite of the range. They are a small cigar so won't be to everybody's liking but make for a very good, cheap everyday 30 min smoke. Stay away from the open range as they are awful, I think Guantanamera are the only Cuban cigars which are worse. This though Is just my opinion and I'm sure for every person that agrees there will be 10 that disagree. Whatever you choose enjoy your smokes
