  • Monte Robusto LE 2006 and RyJ Robusto LE 2001

Before my time these and I've not seen them mentioned on here.

I think TJ has some of the 2001 Monte first release. Does anyone know anything about either of these, including the release price. The RyJ I can find for about ?16 each, the Monte for a little less, a box is a bit out of my league, but I would like to know something/anything about them.
If you want to, you can.

    hey arf,
i've tried only ever 1 of the monte robusto, and it cost ?25 here in belfast, ?3 cheaper than a monte sublimes at the time! was a good cigar, not the earth shattering experience i was expecting for the price and size!!

Hey Arf. I bought a box of the RyJ Robusto a few years after they came out but I didn't get on with them at all....very, very harsh and bitter. After 4 or 5 sticks I ended up selling the rest of the box. Not at all recommended

The Monte Robusto on the other hand was excellent. I only ever bought 5 from the same box but I liked them all. If you can find them snap them up

I had one of the Monte Robustos in the Robusto selection, about four years ago. Assuming it is the same cigar, my thoughts are

        hazy at best! Sorry Arf.

Big fan of the '06 here. I have a few left. I'll send yiu one Arf and if you like we can split that box, I have had itchy fingers on it for a long time now.

Sacrificed in the name of a cause.

                Source: Molecularstudent

                Appearance: First rate.

Construction. A little tight but otherwise flawless. Breezy in the garden (I had to weigh the bands down with a stone) but the Monte smoked straight an' true.

                First 3rd.
Sweet and salty start > citrus warming in > refreshingly bitter > stays > lemon tobacco edge (nice) > Monte wood tastes appearing (excellent overall balance).
                Second 3rd.
Citrus/wood (better than excellent) > stays > meat traces akin Kung Po (honey/sour) > citrus with burnt tobacco edge > tastes caramalising together.
                Final 3rd.
Stays > becoming slightly leathery (brilliant) > stronger > rich, sweet leather > stays > rich, sweet leather gains a bitter edge > stays. Delicious cigar. No discernable nicotine. (For me that's a plus, for others not).

The nicotine is possibly important as far as this exercise is concerned. I have not smoked one of these before and so don't know how important power was to the blend on release. Mellow is what they are today.

I would say this was one great smoke. Very smooth and very tasty.

These are being discussed elsewhere .... and the RyJ 2001 RE are judged superior by a BOTL who's opinion I would respect.

I went large on the R&J EL Robustos when they first came out. They were decent fresh and pretty nice when a few years old. I smoked one a few weeks ago and it was fantastic. I recommend these if priced right. Still have a few boxes left and am glad I waited them out.
