MonteCristo #4 Reserva

Got these today:

The local tobacconist says they're fake, but is moderately unsure upon second look. There was still some doubt in his mind after, but he personally wouldn't buy them because of the doubt.
I maintain their certainty but will let that down if there is a unanimous say that they are not real.

The foot has a blend as you can see (or can't because of my bloody camera) and the reserva bands seem real enough. The mate i bought them off said his box was number 2810 out of 5000 back in '07 when they came out. All information is helpful!!

All the Reservas i've seen have spotless smooth wrappers. They look toothy to say the least

They look pretty rough to me, I have never seen Reserva with such a toothy wrapper. Mine all have silky, fine wrappers and are densely packed (like a good Cohiba / Trinidad).

I don't think 'the foot has a blend' is relevant to this discussion. All Cuban cigars have a blend.

It comes down to how well you trust your mate, anyone can have a real box, smoke them and put the Reserva label on a regular Monte 4. Then the next question is was he sold a real box, and by whom, were they 100% legitimate?

A small point, none of my Reserva labels are loose but I notice most of yours are not in their original position.

Smoke one, it should be stunning.

Well, just a side note, hes kept them in a pretty dry box. I noticed the same with the Part. P2s he sent me as well as these four. Seems as if they've shrunk quite a tad here.....
He also had many more he was NOT willing to sell as he definitely wanted to smoke them himself. I think if they were fake, he wouldnt think they are either. Maybe i can get a picture of the box. Lemme take a viddy......

Its marketed as a blend of everything MC has to offer so they try to show them off.....

i have only had one MGR and as has been said the wrapper was a lot smother than the ones in your picture more like the one Paul put up (coming to think about it i think it was one of his i smoked) at the end of the day in my opinion it all comes down to trusting your source,some will say fake some will not, from pictures it very hard to say 100%

Never hard that myself and a blend is not always visible.

If your mate got them from a 100% source and his is 100% then should all be good. If either of those are not 100% you will always have doubts.

Sorry to say Butternut, but they look like fakes to me, the Montecristo bands on them look awful...

I never considered the fact that my username would make everyone call me by that . Ah well

However, that's probably the only thing that's making me doubt them. The blend on the foot is VERY stem free. It also has the same marble swirl and all. The Reserva band looks immaculate actually, it's almost completely perfect.
Just the Monte band looks like one from circa 06 rather than the new '07 ones that are a tad darker in colour...

Happy to authenticate them ( we have around 1000 cabinets to compare to)
