  • RyJ exhibicions.....

    hey all,
just wanted some opinions on the RyJ exhibicion no. 3 & 4!!! i started off smoking RyJ no.2's, short churchills, churchills and mille fleurs (after the customary dabblings with cohibas..... had more misses than hits, so to speak)!!! once i discovered other brands that appealed more to me, such as bolivar, partagas and h upmann, i drifted away!!! every so often i dip back in, usually for a no.2 or short churchill!!! i'm interested in the exhibicion no.4, how does it compare to the short churchill? and what's the general thoughts on exhibicion no.3?

    thanks,

    alex

Good morning Alex - I'm surprised that you dumped Cohibas for RyJ. My personal experience of both is that Cohiba have remained faithful to blend whereas RjY have varied (not always for the better) with change. It's for that reason that I stuck with Cohibas. I would include H Upmann as being a consistent brand although I have very few in the humi. My opinion on modern RyJs therefore is probably not what you want to hear although I have read similar comments on the Forum.

      hey david,
since i started smoking cuban cigars a few years ago, i've had both ends of the spectrum as far as cohibas are concerned, either amazing or crap!! when they're on form, nothing beats them!!! however, as i said, i've had more misses than hits, that make me curse the brand and go for something i know i'm guaranteed to enjoy..... i've always found the RyJ short churchill amazingly consistent, whereas the cohiba robusto, i'd say my success ratio is 1 in 3!!! i stopped buying CoRo's a couple of years ago because of this!!!

as far as RyJ E3's and E4's are concerned, i've had a chance recently to pick up boxes of 2005's of each... they've perked my interest!! again, i'm looking comparisons to the short churchill, since they are a similar size (one's a 48 RG, the other's a 50RG)!! i'm also enjoying the corona gorde size (boli CE, h upmann mag 46, SLR serie A....), so i wanted opinions on the RyJ equivalent!!!

      cheers,

      alex

I suspect Cohiba can afford to stay blend faithful Dave, especially as the changes to RyJ seem to almost exactly coincide with the period when Cohiba were going from Diplomatic gift to Production brand.

I don't mind the ExN3 and N4 Alex, and when they have a few years I prefer them to the Short Churchill. The other thing which might make them more acceptable as a pleasant change smoke is CoRo = ?19.99 ExN3 = ?11.99

There seem to be loads aavailable, and aged boxes aren't too difficult to find. Ravi had some 04s, and the stick price was around $8.50.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

oh, btw, i didn't dump cohiba for RyJ, oh no!!! i found that for an extra pound or two, i could get 2 decent cuban robustos in belfast for the price of 1 coro, thus, doubling my experience and pleasure!!!

          CoRo= ?22
VR famosos, rass, h upmann connie 1, JL2, RyJ SC etc, averaged out between ?12-15

and you're wondering why so many aged boxes available. To be honest I don't know. Opinions are divided, but young these don't get a great press, and that might be the problem. Add a few years and opinion swings in their favour. I've only ever bought the Ex's as singles and have enjoyed them, but maybe a trip to Mrs Moran might be order-of-the- day before buying a box.

I have no idea what this lad is referring to , but I've enjoyed a few aged RyJ Exhibicions No. 4s (ExN4?) similar in age to the ones you are considering and they were quite enjoyable, nothing to write home about, mind you....but enjoyable, nontheless.
